He is drawn to electronic music due to the “acceptance within the scene.” “That is really special to me. No matter who or what you are, everyone is accepted and the people all come together to party and have a great time. That’s what I really love about electronic dance music,” he said.
Regarding his plans for 2017, Heldens said, “I’ve got so much new music coming up for both Oliver Heldens and HI-LO that I can’t wait to share with you; furthermore, I’m playing a lot of great festivals in the next couple of months that I’m really excited about.”
Each day, Heldens’ biggest motivations are his fans, and their support helped him rank No. 8 on the prestigious DJ Magazine Top 100 DJs poll. “It was unbelievable and it somewhat still feels unreal. I’m so grateful for all the love and support I get every day and this was one of the highlights in my career,” he said, effusively.
Aside from recognition from DJ Magazine, he is extremely proud of starting his own label, Heldeep Records. “That was definitely a huge moment in my career that I’m super proud of,” he said.
When asked if he ever played in Greece, he responded, “Yes, I’ve played there in 2015 in a big club called Cavo Paradiso. I really like Greece so playing there felt amazing. Oh, and the crowd was awesome as well!”
On the future of electronic dance music, he shared that it will continue to be going strong. “It’s interesting to see how the scene keeps on evolving and new sounds are continuously being discovered,” he said.
For aspiring DJs and producers, Heldens recommended that they refrain from following trends blindly, and instead, they should focus on finding their own, unique sound.
Heldens defined the word success as being able “to make people happy” with his music. “The more the better of course,” he said.
