DJ, producer, and multi-instrumentalist OddKidOut spoke about his new EP “Weightless” and playing Electric Zoo.
‘Weightless’ EP
Regarding the song selection approach for his “Weightless” EP, he said, “I wanted to have a body of work that reflected how I’ve been feeling lately… how my surroundings have influenced me, and also where I am sonically.”
When asked which song is his personal favorite on there, he responded, “It’s impossible for me to choose a favorite, that’s such a hard question. Each song is important to me for different reasons and they all tell a story together.”
Music and songwriting inspirations
Regarding his music and songwriting inspirations, he shared, “I’m inspired by emotion. I make music because it represents how I feel without me having to use any words. It is very cathartic for me.”
The digital age
On being an artist in the digital age, now with streaming, technology, and social media being so prevalent, he said, “Well, it’s hard to answer this without being older and having any reference of the past but, I am very influenced by those who came before us.”
“I often fantasize about what it was like to be an artist during those times. I also see the advantages of having new technology. I don’t know, it’s one of those ‘grass is always greener on the other side’ type of situations,” he added.
His plans for the future include making new music, surrounding himself with good people, and enjoying life.
Future of electronic music
On the future of electronic music in the next five years, he said, “I think electronic music is hopefully going to blend with more genres, and we’ll start to see a hybrid, branch-off of kids who love other styles of music and are making them on a computer.”
Success
He furnished his definition of success. “I think success is different for everyone. For me, success means getting to do what I love and support the people around me while I’m doing it,” he said.
Electric Zoo
He revealed that he is excited to be playing Electric Zoo at Randall’s Island Park in New York this weekend. “I’m so stoked,” he said. “This is my first festival on a main stage and I’m back in one of my favorite cities! What else could be better.”
“Be safe, drink water, have fun and get inspired,” he told his fans about Electric Zoo.
