Obama ‘would love’ to be guest on The Daily Show, but not Colbert

In the near future, place your bets on Obama appearing on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and don’t gamble on the President appearing on its sister show, The Colbert Report.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs spoke to a Time reporter about the issue, responding to a question as to whether Obama would be interested in making a return appearance to The Daily Show (he often appeared on Stewart’s program during his campaign).

Gibbs replied, “I think the President would love to, just maybe not Colbert.” Why not? He explained: “I have yet to see a politician best Stephen Colbert in an interview on his show. I mean, he’s really really good.”

Did Obama not see Colbert break into tears when he was named President-elect?

Obama also appeared on The Colbert Report during his campaign run. But Colbert, who played a Republican talk-show host in the vein of Bill O’Reilly, often attacks Obama under the guise of satirical comedy.

Gibbs also discussed the White House decision to slot Obama into guest spots at both The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman.

He told Time:
I actually, truth be told, was shocked that basically [David] Axelrod and I were the first two people in the history of the republic to decide to put the President of the United States on Leno and Letterman. It was two of the easiest decisions that we had to make. Tons of people are watching it, and different types of people.
