Electronic artist Nora En Pure chatted about her upcoming performance at Electric Zoo at Randall’s Island Park.

She shared her thoughts on AI (artificial intelligence) on the future of the music industry.

In 2022, Nora En Pure ranked No. 57 on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs poll. She hails from South Africa and Switzerland; moreover, her DJ style is melodic house.

2023 Electric Zoo

“I will have two sets, the first one will be during sunset, which is my favorite time to play,” she exclaimed about Electric Zoo. I hope to really enhance the best time of the day with that golden hour glow and classic NEP sounds, and the second set will be the closing set which is a B2B with Franky Wah.”

“We have never played B2B yet but we are planning to have our two characteristic sounds come together and definitely play a little more driving and darker as well to close out Sunday night,” she said.

Future plans

On her future plans, she said, “There is always something in the works, currently I’m quite busy on a project that is combining my love for music and nature in a cool way that I feel will help to give back to the planet and its wildlife.”

“It’s what I’m most passionate about and I love to be able to combine the two worlds. There is more to come about this soon,” she foreshadowed.

Music and songwriting inspirations

On her music and songwriting inspirations, she shared, “The outdoor adventure and being connected to nature. I really only feel grounded when I get the chance to be away from screens and take time to just reconnect with the natural world around me. This is when I feel most inspired and get ideas for new melodies or tracks.”

Her thoughts on AI on the future of the music business

“Where the music industry has been lately and where it’s going isn’t necessarily hopeful from an artist’s point of view,” she expressed. “It’s always been money driven, and the last few years very social media driven, now AI… the result is that the music lacks more and more originality like in most artistic industries.”

She continued, “Nonetheless I feel my sound might be a bit harder to generate with AI than others, as I often have playful or a slightly unusual elements in there as well, and I hope I’m right when I say that I think I have quite a unique approach and touch when it comes to the emotion that is transported in a record.”

“It’s only more motivation to stick to my characteristic sound and approach to music,” she added.

Dream collaboration choices in music

On her dream collaboration choices in music, she responded, “I think collaborations can be very interesting in opening your usual workflow, approach and mindset.”

“Given I have quite a cinematic soundscape in many tracks as well I would be intrigued to work with movie soundtrack composers or bands that have been heavily featured in dramatic movies like M83. I also like indie artists such as London Grammar and Florence and the Machine,” she elaborated.

Closing thoughts on Electric Zoo in New York

“I am really excited to introduce our Purified Stage to EZOO,” she said. “It feels like a real milestone for our brand and all I can hope for is that everyone enjoys it and gets whisked away in our Purified World.”
