On November 9, the alternative pop-rock group Nightly sat down and chatted about their music career at Racket NYC.

Performing in New York City’s Racket NYC

“It feels great to be here,” they said. “We feel super blessed to be here, this is our second night in a row playing. It has been really fun. We love New York, it’s one of our favorite places… there is something about this city.”

‘wear your heart out’ single and album

On their single “wear your heart out,” they said, “This was the first song that we wrote for the album, so it was our inspiration for it. We felt like we wanted to incorporate the live element. We thought it would be fun to do a video that had a dress rehearsal in the beginning and performing on stage with the flashing lights.”

They noted that the song selection process for their “wear your heart out” album was actually quite hard. “To pick the order was hard,” they admitted.

The band members listed “my boys,” “the feeling,” “shirt” and “navy blue” as their personal favorite tunes on the LP.

Biggest musical influences

They shared that their biggest musical influences include Coldplay, The Killers, and U2.

The digital age

On being a band in the digital age, Nightly said, “In our opinion, this is the best time ever to be a band, especially because of streaming; there is so much new music that comes out. It is easier than ever for people to find music that they love.”

“From a production standpoint, AI is a really useful tool for people to get into production. At the same time, a song that is written entirely by AI is a terrifying thought for us,” they said.

Career-defining moments

Regarding their career-defining moments, they said, “When you go from an opening back to a headliner, it’s a career-defining moment because you get to entertain fans for a longer time and you get to interact with them more. In particular, that helped shape our sound.”

Future plans

On their future plans, they shared, “We are finishing up this tour, which has been amazing so far.”

“We may release a new song at the end of the year,” they foreshadowed. “Then, we will release new music and play some more shows… some international shows too.”

Stage of their lives: Nightly is ‘Locked In’

Regarding the title of the current chapter of their lives, they revealed, “Locked In.” “We are so locked in and excited and moving towards a goal together in an awesome way,” they said. “Also gratitude, especially post-COVID. We are so grateful that live music is back.”

Origin of the band name

On the origin of their band name, they noted, “The first song we wrote, which never came out was called ‘The Night.’ We wanted to incorporate ‘night’ in the title, and ‘love you’ and we shorted it to ‘nightly.’ We combined it together and now, it’s Nightly. This is a little secret that only some of our fans know.”

Dream duet choices in music

The band-mates listed Shania Twain, Holly Humberstone, and Alanis Morissette as their dream collaboration choices in music.

Success

Regarding their definition of the word success, Nightly said, “Being true to yourself, and finding inner happiness. Also, doing what you love and what fulfills you. Being the best version of ourselves, and paying the bills somehow.”
