Pop singer-songwriter Nicky Youre (best known for his smash single “Sunroof”) chatted about his new music.

A southern California native, Youre is creating a body of work that is sure to be a staple on people’s playlists thanks to its feel-good vibes that are uplifting.

“My first song that my team and I released was ‘Sunroof’ and it went insane obviously. It was a unicorn of a song, and the song is still doing great,” he admitted. “It was my first single so I didn’t know how to handle a lot of the things that would come with it, but I am starting to figure those things out. I think this is the year that I have to figure out who I am as an artist, and who I want to be. Lately, I feel really good about those things.”

‘Found’

On Friday, March 10, Youre is releasing his new song “Found,” which is from the Netflix animated film “The Magician’s Elephant.” “Found” was written by 14-time Oscar-nominated songwriter Diane Warren. “It’s a song about how good it feels to be with someone and to feel understood and discovered, that’s the story of the movie as well,” he said.

“I didn’t actually write the song, Diane Warren wrote it and she is a legendary songwriter. I just met her when I recorded that song and she is the best person ever. Diane wrote that song and they brought me onboard to sing it. Diane is so talented. The song is great, and it’s awesome to be a part of a movie, this is my first movie,” he said.

“Animated movies are my favorite, so I am hoping I can have a career in making songs for animated movies and all kinds of movies,” he added.

Youre is signed to Columbia Records in partnership with Thirty Knots Records, the young up-and-coming star has made quite the splash.

‘Shut Me Up’

Following a performance on Dick Clark’s “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” and nominations for iHeart Radio and Kids’ Choice Awards, Youre is looking to leave his mark as he gears up to release more music throughout 2023 led by his new single “Shut Me Up.” “It is pretty cool, I am excited,” he said.

‘Sunroof’

His breakout single, “Sunroof,” solidified itself as one of 2022’s songs of the summer by catapulting its way into the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for 11 consecutive weeks (peaking at No. 4).

This single earned Nicky his first nomination at the 2022 MTV VMA’s for “Song of the Summer,” and thanks to its commercial success he made his TV debut with a performance on “The Today Show.”

On the success of “Sunroof,” he said, “That was pretty crazy. It was a crazy whirlwind. My career got boosted with that song so I am very grateful for it. I can’t believe how fast things have gone. It has been a crazy couple of months. So much has changed for me, I quit my Dell job and now, I am a full-time musician where I make music all day and every day, and I love that. Some days, it is painful and hard, other days, it is the best thing ever.”

Headlining shows

Youre will have two of his own headlining shows, one at The Moroccan Lounge on March 30 in Los Angels, and another on April 18 at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn, New York. “I am pretty excited about those,” he said. “We sold out The Moroccan Lounge within the first day and we hope to keep building,” he said.

“Baby’s All Right will be my second headlining show in New York,” he added.

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, Youre said, “it is pretty crazy. Obviously, it changed my life. There are days when it’s really tough. I didn’t come from a background of posting on social media ever, I was a lurker where I would post once every four or five months.”

“Now, it is my job to post as much as I possibly can. I am still adjusting to that, especially on how to show my personality on social media,” he added.

Dream collaboration choices in music

Youre listed Dominic Fike as his dream collaboration choices in music. “Dominic Fike from ‘Euphoria’ is my ultimate goal,” he said. “Also, I would love to work with Justin Bieber and Lewis Capaldi, if I ever went down a ballad route.”

Success

On his definition of success, Youre said, “Success is routed in being happy and content with everything right now. Everything has been amazing and now, it’s about being content with those things and still striving for more.”
