Neil Young launches high-quality archive of entire music catalog

Most impressive about this online archive is that it is comprised of 50 years worth of musical content. According to The Verge, this venture began as a music player and an online music store, and it subsequently turned into Xstream, a high-quality streaming service that fans and music listeners can enjoy in a high-quality format.

Speaking of quality, the quality will range from an mp3 all the way up to 192kHz/24-bit high resolution; moreover, the music files are of master quality.

This announcement coincides with Neil Young’s latest rock album, The Visitor, which is his 39th career studio effort. The album, where he collaborates with the band Promise of the Real, is available on iTunes by clicking here.

Fans and listeners are able to browse through the website as a timeline, which starts with “Aurora,” a song from 1963, and it goes all the way to his latest studio album, The Visitor. Each segment consists of additional material such as press articles, archived photography, as well as sheet music, which makes it more authentic. Most musical content will be regularly added to that platform.

Young also recorded a video tutorial, which explains how to use the site. This tutorial is 10 minutes long, and the website is not available on one’s mobile phone.

In 1995, Neil Young was inducted into the coveted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in its “Performers” category.
