Nazneen Contractor chatted about starring in the upcoming film “The Love Club Moms: Nila,” which will premiere on February 28th on UP Faith & Family.

The synopsis is: Since her husband died three years earlier, Nila’s life has been all about her Instagram business and helicopter parenting her daughter Mara. Now a tween aching to break free, Mara creates a dating profile for her mom.

Playing ‘Nila’ in the film

“I love my character Nila,” she admitted. “I think Nila has the biggest heart in the whole wide world even though she lost her husband, who was the love of her life, three years ago.”

“Nina is a single mom to a teenage daughter. I have so much respect for single parents; I think it’s the hardest thing in the world. I like the fact that she is brave and that she leads with her heart.”

‘The Love Club’ franchise

On being a part of “The Love Club” franchise, she said, “There are four movies, which was such a unique experience for me. It’s about four women, and each woman is the start of her own movie.”

“You are a supporting character in each of the other films,” she noted. “This is a venture that I had never done before. I was really excited. We actually shot all four movies at the same time, so it felt like shooting a series.”

“We actually got to live with these characters for four months, which was pretty unique and really wonderful because it allowed us to become friends,” she added.

Working with the cast of actors

On working with the other ladies, she said, “We jelled well. Last year, at this time, we were at the Bahamas together. We wrapped in October, and then, in January, the four of us vacationed together in the Bahamas. We become friends very quickly, which is very unusual. It doesn’t always happen.”

“We were able to really highlight each other’s strengths and lift each other up when we needed it; it was great,” she exclaimed.

Working with Joseph Cannata

On working with Joseph Cannata as her leading man, she said, “Joseph is such a sweetheart. I am so glad that he was my romantic lead. He is just a really genuine guy. What you see is what you get, and that translates so beautifully on screen.”

“His character was such an earnest and lovely man for my character, Nila, to meet. Joseph does the work and he puts in the time. He is generous and sweet. Overall, he is a very giving guy,” she elaborated.

The digital age

On being an actress in the digital age, she remarked, “I love it. The more people my work can reach globally, the better. I am Indian and I have a lot of family in India.”

“Now, thanks to technology and streaming, my family in India can see my work. I love that I am able to reach my family and friends, as well as make new fans abroad. I feel like it’s a real benefit and a real boom,” she explained.

‘General Hospital’

In the ABC daytime drama “General Hospital,” she plays ADA Turner.

“It’s a really great gig for a bunch of reasons,” she admitted. “First of all, the studio is 15 minutes away from my house, which is a beautiful thing. Also, my husband, Carlo Rota, is on the show. Carlo is so talented and so good. They still have me on the show… I get to go to work tomorrow.”

“Doing courtroom scenes on my first day on the show was such a great challenge,” she admitted.

“I really saw it as something exciting. I’m a thrill seeker; whenever something scares me, I am drawn to it even more. The cast was so nice and so supportive, and the show liked me enough to bring me back,” she elaborated.

Working with Brennan Elliott in ‘The Perfect Pairing’

On working with Brennan Elliott in “The Perfect Pairing” on Hallmark, she exclaimed, “I love Brennan.” “That was so much fun. When I did the two different characters, it felt like I was playing two different people,” she said.

“That was a bucket list for me as an actor; to play two different people: Joy and Christina,” she added.

Advice for young and emerging actors

For young and aspiring actors, she said, “I think it’s different now being an actor because everything since the pandemic has moved to a self-tape medium.”

“Make sure you love this job because it’s not for the faint of heart. I’ve been doing this for 20 years… it is not always easy, but when it’s happening, it’s amazing,” she noted.

“Invest in your craft, take lessons, find people whose performance you love… watch them and analyze them. Find a good coach; I think it is highly beneficial,” she underscored. “Also, enjoy it.”

Stage of her life

On the title of the current chapter of her life, Contractor said, “Being open to what comes next.”

Success

Regarding her definition of the word success, she said, “Success means being happy with myself, whether I am working as an actor or not. That is something really hard for a lot of actors to understand.”

Closing thoughts on the new film

For her fans and viewers, she remarked about the new movie “The Love Club Moms: Nila,” “Friendship is everything; invest in your friends. Make new friends as adults and cherish the ones that you have.”
