Nathan Stanley talks Dr. Ralph Stanley and new Cracker Barrel CD (Includes interview)

On being a part of the new Cracker Barrel album, Man of Constant Sorrow, Nathan said, “It was an absolute honor for me to be apart of the Cracker Barrel project. I was so pleased that they wanted to honor my grandfather in this way.”

For Nathan, it was extremely hard to pick a favorite song on the album, and he praised every artist for doing great work. “Each song has something unique and special I don’t think I could pick a favorite,” he said.

On collaborating with Dr. Ralph Stanley, he said, “It keeps me very busy, but I thoroughly enjoy it. My grandfather really has a lot of confidence in me and I appreciate that. I do my best to make sure everything is just right for him, because he deserves the best. There are wonderful people on my side who help me with my career, because that is very important as well, so we have to balance it out as much as we can.”

Regarding his future plans, he said, “I’m going to keep on making music and traveling. I’ve started working on my 9th solo album so I’ve got a pretty good start. I’ll continue to perform with my grandfather as long as he continues to travel as well as perform solo at many events. I have had the great privilege to perform in New York with my grandfather so many times, I hope to have a solo show up there soon. Becoming an actor is also a plan of mine. I think it would be wonderful to start appearing in films.”

He is drawn to bluegrass music due to its realness and purity. “To me, bluegrass is real country music. It’s not easy to sing and it’s not hard to sing, but everyone was not cut out to sing bluegrass. It’s so real,” he said.

At last year’s Dove awards, he took home the award for “Best Bluegrass Album.” “That was the absolute highlight of my career, thus far. It was my first nomination and win. I really did not expect to win, I was just honored to be nominated. When they called my name, I was in total shock. All the glory and honor goes to God for his blessings and favor. Without his favor, it would be tough to do anything,” he said.

He listed Dolly Parton as his dream female duet choice. “Dolly has been my all-time favorite female singer since I was about five years old. She has such an angelic voice. That is definitely one of my goals. Also, I would like to record one with Lisa Marie Presley. I’m a huge Elvis fan. It would be very special to me if I had that opportunity. She is a fantastic artist in her own right,” he said.

For his fans, he said, “I would like them to know how much I appreciate and love them. Without my fans, I would not be able to do what I love to do. It’s because of them, and mostly God, that I’m living out my dream.”

He concluded, “Would like to encourage everyone to visit my website and like my Facebook page to keep up with me and my career. We are always posting new announcements on there.”
