Myles Kennedy talks ‘Year of the Tiger’ album, European tour (Includes interview)

On his European tour, Kennedy said, “It is coming up. This is going to be a little bit of a shift from the last few tours, which was myself and a few acoustic guitars. A portion of the tour I will bring out my band, who have played with me on the solo record, and we are going to play the Year of the Tiger tracks with the rhythm section. I am pretty excited. We actually start rehearsals tomorrow, and that is going to be fun. It is a different way to approach it, and we will bring a new element of life to the live show.”

Kennedy shared that his recent show at Highline Ballroom in Manhattan, where he performed material from Year of the Tiger, surpassed all of his expectations.

From the new album, he listed “Haunted by Design” as his personal favorite track on there. “From a stylistic standpoint, it is something that I never really attempted in my catalog before,” he said, prior to noting that it has elements of Mississippi John Hurt influences on there. “I just love his guitar playing and his vocals, though my voice will never do what his did. He had an incredible low voice,” he said, about the late but great Mississippi John Hurt.

The Paramount

On October 9, 2018, Kennedy will be performing at The Paramount in Huntington on Long Island, with Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, as part of their “Living The Dream” Tour. “We still have to do rehearsals, but obviously, we will play new material from the Living The Dream record,” he said. “We will continue to build on what we have established over the last few years.”

Kennedy continued, “I am excited to play these songs again, and play the new tracks on the Living The Dream record. The Paramount show is going to be fun. I am excited to get back to The Paramount.”

Digital transformation of music business

On the impact of technology on the music industry, Kennedy said, “It’s a new frontier. I’ll take that over what we had 15 years ago with the advent of things like Napster. Now, it is a little more legit. It is still evolving, and they are trying to get things figured out from a business standpoint. Technology has moved so quickly and the business model will catch up. We are heading in the right direction.”

Kennedy noted the resurgence of vinyl. “Vinyl is amazing. I highly recommend it. It’s the only way to way. There is just something about the warmth of the analog that the human ears really dig,” he said.

The veteran rocker defined the word success simply as “Doing what you love.” “When you can wake up every day, and feel like you are contributing to the world in a positive sense, and doing what you are meant to do,” Kennedy said.

Year of the Tiger is available on iTunes.
