In this sequel, Nia Vardalos is treating her daughter the way her parents treated her in the original film. It is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 25, 2016, which ironically enough coincides with the celebration of Greek Independence Day.
Vardalos portrays the lead character Toula Portokalos-Miller, who is married to Ian Miller, played by heartthrob actor John Corbett. Veteran actors Lainie Kazan and Michael Constantine play Toula’s parents Maria and Gus Portokalos. Tony-winning actress Andrea Martin is back as Aunt Voula, while Joey Fatone (best known from N Sync) returns as cousin Angelo. Aussie actress Gia Carides reclaims her role as cousin Nikki.
In this sequel, there will be another wedding taking place, while Toula and Ian’s daughter, Paris, is searching for colleges. Apparently, Toula’s parents never signed the marriage license back in the day, which will certainly keep things interesting in this sequel.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is produced by Gary Goetzman, Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson. Vardalos serves as its screenwriter yet again.
The original My Big Fat Greek Wedding was a smash hit with box office ticket sales, and it had cost them only $5 million to make.
Judging from its trailer, this looks like one romantic comedy that should not be missed.
