Review: Trent Tomlinson compelling on new studio album (Includes first-hand account)

It opens with the mid-tempo “Dust” and it is followed by “When She Goes There” and the infectious “One Way In,” which has a traditional country vibe to it.

The heartfelt power-ballad “For the Life of Me” showcases his wide range as a country recording artist, and he picks up the pace with the sassy “Eyes on You.”

“Don’t Blow My Cover” is a great deal of fun, and it immediately breaks into the melancholic title track lead single.

After the mid-tempo “Right Where We Want It,” he tugs at the heart on the country ballad “Cry Baby.” It closes with “The Crying Game” and on a fitting note, with the ballad “I Called up Hell.”

The Verdict

Overall, Trent Tomlinson’s new studio album That’s What’s Working Right Now is an absolute gem. There are no filler tracks on this well-crafted collection, and he proves to be one of the most underrated male country artists in the contemporary music scene. Tomlinson’s rich, baritone vocals are a force to be reckoned with in the music industry, and he is one heck of a songwriter with meaningful and heart-warming lyrics. He stays true to his musical roots. This CD garners an A rating.

Tomlinson’s album That’s What’s Working Right Now is available on iTunes.
