Review: Luke Bryan excellent on new ‘What Makes You Country’ album (Includes first-hand account)

The album opens with the mid-tempo title cut “What Makes You Country” and it continues with the romantic “Out Of Nowhere Girl,” as well as its lead single “Light It Up.”

“Most People Are Good” is an honest, acoustic ballad that tugs at the heartstrings, where he shows his tender side. The upbeat ”
Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset” has a liberating vibe to it. “Hooked On It” is a radio-friendly tune due to its catchy hooks, while the vivacious “She’s A Hot One” will certainly be a crowd pleaser in his live shows, especially for his female fans.

Equally noteworthy is “Bad Lovers,” and he picks up the pace with the fun party tune “Drinking Again.” “Hungover In A Hotel Room” is another polished love song, where he collaborates with Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Emily Weisband, who lends her breathy vocals on the track. After “Pick It Up,” it closes with “Driving This Thing” and “Win Life.”

The Verdict

Overall, Luke Bryan delivers on his sixth studio album, What Makes You Country. There is a lot of variety on this new project, and there is something in it for everybody. A must for all fans of contemporary country music. This new CD garners an A rating.
