Review: Larger Than Life perform at Mulcahy’s for ‘Labor Day Blow Out’ (Includes first-hand account)

They shared the stage with The 90’s Band. Dressed in their white outfits, they opened their set with their namesake song “Larger Than Life,” and they continued with ‘N Sync’s “Tearin’ Up My Heart,” as well as several medleys (with elements of R&B and Motown), that included songs by Blackstreet and Dr. Dre, Boys II Men and Next.

Edvin Ortega interacted well with his Mulcahy’s audience throughout the night. No Larger Than Life show is complete, without hearing them perform New Kids on the Block, and a medley of their hits, which were indeed “The Right Stuff,” to quote their song title.

It was great to hear them cover 98 Degrees’ “Because of You,” as well as ‘N Sync’s tender ballad “(God Must Have Spent) A Little More Time.” The fan-favorite tunes of the evening were “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys and of course, “Everybody,” where everybody was singing along.

For their encore, the talented group returned to tip their hats to O-Town with their signature ballad “All or Nothing,” which was well-received by all.

The Verdict

Overall, Larger Than Life was able to put on a fun and entertaining boy band set, just in time for Labor Day Weekend. All four performers (Edvin Ortega, Chris Jehnert, Toly Rod and Devin Peacock) looked, danced and sounded as good as ever. They were able to give their fans the ultimate boy band experience in the comfort of an intimate venue, Mulcahy’s. Their live show is always a pleasant treat.
