Review: Joe Nichols brings country hits to Fox & Friends’ concert series (Includes first-hand account)

“I’m glad to be in New York City,” Nichols said. “I get really nervous with things like this. I hope ya’ll don’t mind,” he said, but the crowd didn’t seem to mind one bit. I apologize if I keep pulling my pants up, but I need to adjust the volume.”

“Ya’ll sing with me,” he said, and kicked off his set with the infectious “Yeah.”

“All right, New York,” he exclaimed.” I appreciate you all being here. “Y’all have any requests?” and he immediately broke into “Brokenheartsville.” Following the song, he joked around a bit with the Fox & Friends audience. “Have y’all done these before?” he inquired.

He continued with the mid-tempo and flirty “Gimmie That Girl,” and he paraphrased one of the lyrics to “stitch of clothing on,” and personalized one of the verses as: “Gimme the girl the rest of New York ain’t lucky enough to know.” “Put your hand up. C’mon. Sing with me y’all,” he said.

Nichols introduced his six band members. “My name is Blake Shelton. Thank you for being here,” Nichols joked. A fan asked him if he has ever been to Rhode Island, and Nichols noted that he has been there once.

He went on to sing his country version of “Baby Got Back,” which he dubbed as a “weird song,” and acknowledged that it was one of the “weirdest things” he has ever done in his career. “That’s on the new album Never Gets Old by the way,” he said.

Nichols serenaded fans to his new song “Diamonds Make Babies” off the new album. “It’s about what happens when you get married,” he explained. ‘Thank you,” he said, with a chuckle, and showed off his minimal dance moves.

He encouraged some crowd participation on his chart-topping single “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off.” “Let’s all have some tequila after this show,” he said, and in the lyrics he gave an allusion to “Barry Manilow.” Equally fun was the uplifting “Sunny and 75.”

After giving his New York fans a thumbs up, Nichols sang his new radio single “Never Gets Old,” which had an 80’s vibe to it. “I hope you all get excited for this song,” he said. “It’s very country and very laid back,” he explained.
