Review: Greta Van Fleet incredible at Bowery Ballroom in New York City (Includes first-hand account)

Greta Van Fleet is made up of four young rockers, brothers Josh (lead vocals), Jake (guitar), and Sam Kiszka (on keyboards and bass), as well as their best friend, drummer Danny Wagner.

They kicked off their set with “Talk on the Streets,” where they were able to lure their listeners in from the first verse, thus showcasing their rich and sultry rock vocals. They continued with the spitfire “Black Smoke Rising,” where Josh’s voice was reminiscent of a young Robert Plant.

Josh showed his growling prowess on “Edge of Darkness,” while “When the Cold Wind Blows” has electrifying riffs. “Flower Power” had neat hooks to it, and an added bonus was hearing them cover “Evil Is Goin’ On” by Chicago blues musician Howlin’ Wolf, where they tipped their hat to the late Rock and Roll Hall of Famer; moreover, Greta Van Fleet was able to make that Howlin’ Wolf classic their own.

The Verdict

Overall, Greta Van Fleet was able to rock out New York’s Bowery Ballroom. Josh Kiszka’s voice is a tremendous musical instrument in itself, and the entire band is utterly fantastic. They are highly recommended seeing in a live setting, since they sound just as good, if not better live, than they do on their studio album. They are the future of rock and roll. Their set at Bowery Ballroom garnered five out of five stars.

Greta Van Fleet’s From the Fires is available on iTunes.
