The songs have appeared on the semi-official website ‘True To You.’ The tracks are:
Mama Lay Softly On The Riverbed,
One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell,
Something Is Squeezing My Skull.
The tracks are demos from the 2009 album ‘Yeas of Refusal.’
Morrissey is currently without a record contract. This stems from his fall-out with Harvest records over the promotion of his album World Peace Is None of Your Business. The album sold well, reaching number #2 in the U.K. and #14 in the U.S. However, Morrissey criticized the way the album was marketed and parted company with the label after lambasting the company on stage.
Because Morrissey seeks full creative control and certain conditions, the hunt for a record label has always been a prolonged affair and he has rarely stayed with a label for more than a couple of albums. Meanwhile, Morrissey’s touring popularity remains strong and he is currently in the U.S. playing throughout the country.
The singer tends to attract controversy. Some of this is deliberate, coming from his tendency to make provocative, albeit it witty, statements on matters ranging from animals rights to the British monarchy. At other times things come his way.
Recently Morrissey alleged a security guard at US airport sexually assaulted him. Recounting the tale to The Guardian, the former member of The Smiths said:
“I went through the usual airport security procedure including the stand-up ‘scanner’, and all was well – no bleeps and nothing unusual. Before I could gather my belongings from the usual array of trays, I was approached by an ‘airport security officer’ who stopped me, crouched before me and groped my penis and testicles.”
He then added: “He quickly moved away as an older ‘airport security officer’ approached.”
While Morrissey has filed a complaint, a spokesman for the Transport Security Administration (TSA) has denied its employees took part in any wrong doing, claiming that the security officer had simply followed standard search procedures.
Given that Morrissey is an admirer of the works of Oscar Wilde, it is perhaps appropriate to draw on one quotation from the Victorian playwright in light of this incident: “There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.”
