MK talks ‘Back & Forth,’ electronic music, technology and Adele (Includes interview)

“It’s exciting to be here. I’ve never done this before,” he said. “I will be playing my new single ‘Back & Forth,’ as well as some MK classics.”

His songwriting and music are inspired by “playing out.” “I just want to go in the studio afterward,” he admitted. “I envision playing the song in the live set when I am creating the song. I don’t really think about radio or chart position, I just want the kids to like it.”

MK listed British songstress Adele as his dream female duet choice in music. For aspiring DJs and producers, MK said, “Don’t try to copy somebody else. You have more success being original.”

Digital transformation of the electronic music scene

On the impact of technology on the contemporary electronic music scene, MK said, “Technology helps the kids that don’t ever go out. I play for a lot of kids, who see me as part of their first festival, but these kids know me from the streaming services. They know all the songs and they sing along. It’s cool.”

“I have always been into technology. I have made music with it since the beginning,” MK said. “Any aspect of technology that is available I use it, whether it is downloading sounds, or listening to somebody’s play-list from Spotify, which you couldn’t do previously. Before, you had to go out and hear somebody play it live, or find the recording somewhere online.”

Technology aids MK with his studio and the recording process, and most importantly, social media is of utmost significance. It helps him gain ideas from a creative standpoint to help make his music better.

In the next five years, MK feels that electronic music is going to get “bigger and bigger,” especially since it is “so accessible these days.”

“Back & Forth” is available on digital retailers.
