Tony award-winning actress Miriam Silverman chatted about starring in the new series “Vladimir” on Netflix, where she worked with Rachael Weisz and Leo Woodall.
‘Vladimir’ on Netflix
The synopsis is: Lust can make you do crazy things. This is a new limited series starring Oscar winner Rachel Weisz and Leo Woodall about a passionate but reckless professor whose world begins to unravel as she finds herself dangerously fixated on her magnetic new colleague.
“This show was such a wonderful experience,” she said. “It felt, in some ways, fated to happen. The writer of the novel, Julia May Jonas, who was also the creator and showrunner of the show, wrote it with some other wonderful writers. We are old friends and we’ve known each other for the long time. I fell in love with her novel.”
“I knew, unsurprisingly, there was lots of interest around it and it was going to be made into a series. No matter how much excitement and buzz there is around a buzz around that, it still takes a long time for it to be born,” she elaborated.
“I had an inkling along the way that there might be a part of me on the show, but you never want to count your chickens. I was just excited that it was made into a show, and then, when I got to be a part of it was a dream come true.”
“We had so much fun shooting it. The scripts were so incredible, dark, smart, provocative, and funny. It was really thrilling,” she admitted.
“The cast of ‘Vladimir’ was wonderful. I loved everyone involved. This was my second time working with Rachel and my first time working with Leo,” she added.
“Vladimir” releases on Netflix on Thursday, March 5th.
Playing her character Florence in ‘Vladimir’
On playing her character, she said, “Florence is such a piece of work! I always like playing characters that have some extremes in them and some challenging qualities.”
“Florence is such a rigorous rule follower,” she admitted. “She is kind of uptight. She’s a little stuck up. She’s super judgmental, and really self-righteous, but she really believes her mission. Florence believes that she is correct in everything.”
“I always love every character I ever take on. I love them for all their flaws and for all the ways they are really different for me,” she said.
“There is a lot about Florence that is really different from me. I am not a rule follower at all,” she said with a sweet laugh.
‘Your Friends & Neighbors’ Season 2
On being a part of “Your Friends & Neighbors,” Silverman said, “I am thrilled for that to come out in the world. That’s where I play one of the friends and neighbors. I loved it.”
“The show is great with such a big ensemble cast. Everyone is so nice. It’s a lot of New York theater greats who are in it, many of which are old friends of mine. So, we had a blast,” she added.
‘Landman’ on Paramount+
On being a part of “Landman,” she said, “That was such a fun job. I had a blast doing that. The writing is spectacular on that show.”
“I hope there will be more Greta in ‘Landman’ this summer in Season 3,” she added.

‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’
On being a part of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” Silverman said, “That was so much fun! It feels like a really long time ago. It was so fun to step into a show that was already such a hit.”
“It’s such a well-oiled machine, and the cast was so lovely. The creators of that show are so brilliant at what they do,” she added.
2023 Tony Award win
In 2023, Silverman won the Tony Award for “Best Featured Actress in a Play” for “The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window.”
“It was truly the thrill of a lifetime and so unexpected,” she admitted. “The whole journey was great! I had done this play before with the same director, Anne Kauffman, who is my absolute favorite.”
“That play meant so much to me because we performed it at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). It was really a dream come true, and the unexpected transfer to Broadway was beyond amazing,” she added.
Stage of her life
“Embracing Opportunity and Navigating it all.” “That’s what I’m trying to do right now,” she admitted.
Miriam Silverman — The theater professor at NYU
In addition to being an actress, she is also a theater instructor at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. “I teach one class a semester but it’s very important to me. It’s a really big part of my identity and I get a lot of artistic fulfillment from it,” she said.
“My main job, though, is being a mother to my two kids,” she added.
Success
Regarding her definition of success, Silverman said, “Success means feeling artistically fulfilled, excited, and challenged about the work that I get to do and the work I am putting out into the world.”
