Mike DelGuidice of Big Shot sat down and chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about his upcoming show with Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden on Friday, November 5.

DelGuidice fronts the Billy Joel tribute band Big Shot, and he performs with the “Piano Man” himself in his live band, where he plays acoustic guitar and sings background and harmony vocals.

This will mark the first Billy Joel concert after the shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “That will be our first time back at The Garden. The energy will be insane,” he exclaimed. “There will be lots of energy. I am very excited about that show, everybody is. We are all looking forward to it. Billy is excited as well.”

On October 30, he performed at The Paramount in Huntington with Big Shot, where they paid a special tribute to the veterans. “It always feels amazing to play here,” he said. “It’s just like home. It’s going to be a great show with the veterans. It is nice to let them feel the respect that they deserve. We don’t thank them enough. The veterans are the reason that we have what we have, 100 percent.”

For DelGuidice, getting the gig with Billy Joel was the “hugest thing” for him as well as a career-defining moment. “It definitely put an exclamation point on the career, which is beautiful,” he said. “It has been lovely.”

“Also, every time I am on stage and I have a great audience is incredible since that keeps us going,” he added.

Solo music

DelGuidice revealed that he is putting a new album together of new solo music. “We have a new single that we are playing tonight ‘Liarcracker’ and I am excited about it,” he said. “It’s a fun one.”

He shared that he dedicated “Where Do the Heroes Go?” to the veterans in the Huntington audience at The Paramount.

“I am just excited for the new album, and I can’t wait to get it together,” he added.

On the title of the current chapter of his life, DelGuidice responded, “Growth.”

Over the last decade, DelGuidice acknowledged that looking back in a rearview mirror, he sees “a lot of lessons” that hopefully “will lead to growth.”

DelGuidice defined the word success simply as contentment in life. “Contentment in all situations and being able to be okay,” he said.

For his fans, he expressed his sincere gratitude.
