Midnight Boy chats 80s sound, new music, future plans (Includes interview)

His greatest musical influences The Doors, Prince, Madonna, Depeche Mode, as well as other British new wave/synth-pop acts.

Midnight Boy’s distinct musical sound comes from the 80s era, and he is drawn to its groove and melodies. “It just turns me on. Overall, it’s more of an attitude to life. It has that craziness and lack of boundaries which I love. I rather be experimental instead of judgmental and I think it’s important to have an open mind to people’s different ways of expression,” he said.

On his plans for the future, he said, “I’ve got a bunch of new songs that I’m gonna put out there. I’m very much for the visuals, and I wanna do something special with the release. I’m also playing some shows right now and I’d love to do a tour in Europe, or even the United States of course.”

He shared that he would love to come and perform in “The Big Apple.” “I’m a huge fan of New York, and I really hope I can come there soon,” he said.

When asked if there is a difference between singing live or in the studio, he said, “I would say those are two very different things. I always prefer singing live in front of an audience. Not only because it’s more fun but being on stage is the most powerful thing I know. It’s my drug and it makes me feel free.”

His personal favorite song is “When the Music’s Over” by The Doors.

He listed Alison Moyet and Lana del Rey as his dream female duet choices. “I’m a big fan Moyet’s work, especially the stuff from Yazoo. As for Lana, I think she’s brilliant and one of the most interesting artists of today. They would make an exceptional duo for sure, Moyet with her big voice and Lana with her fascinating expression,” he said.

For aspiring musicians, he recommended they just “go for it,” and whatever it is that they want to do. “I think a lot of songwriters pays too much attention to radio and charts in general. Allow yourself to be different, that’s the key to creativity and also how it becomes interesting,” he said.

He noted that he was never nervous to be naked in his videos. “I never thought of it that way. It was important to me to fulfill the vision with the song which was to make the video in that specific way. If you do think about it, it’s not a very strange thing. I mean we’re all born naked, and I think most people can relate to certain situations in life when it feels completely natural to be so. In the shower, or even when cooking in the kitchen. Like I said, not so strange,” he said.

Midnight Boy concluded, “As an artist, I’m nothing without my fans so I wanna send them all the love I have, all the time. Thank you so much! Keep dancing and pumping my music, loud.”
