The Xbox One Mini, alternately known as the Micro, was purported to be a cheaper version of the standard Xbox One console. It would sport a smaller chassis and make do without a Blu-ray drive, forcing users to download games from the Internet.

The new device was expected by many to be unveiled at Microsoft’s upcoming major launch event, apparently planned for October. However, no evidence of its existence has ever appeared and today Microsoft’s Phil Spencer seemingly put an end to the rumours.
In response to a fan asking “is the Xbox Micro rumor coming out in October a lie”, Spencer tweeted “Not real.” There isn’t much scope for negotiation in that phrasing and it seems as though the Xbox head just firmly debunked the various theories.
Even with Xbox apparently not involved in Microsoft’s plans for October, the company still has a large roster of devices to unveil and please fans with. The new flagship Windows 10 Mobile Lumias are certain to finally make an official appearance while the probability of a Surface Pro 4 launch is also high.
Interestingly, Microsoft news site Neowin suggests that the absence of the Xbox One Mini does not necessarily mean that there will be no new Xbox at all. A smaller version using a cooler processor and “Slim” branding could still appear, although this is rather speculative.
Spencer’s tweet seems definitive on the Xbox One Mini topic but it only applies to that specific rumour mill. It’s possible that Xbox fans will still be able to come out happy from the October event.
However, it’s still a few months away so fans should remember that plans may change. In any case, none of this, except the nonexistence of the “Xbox One Mini”, has been confirmed by Microsoft.
