Singer-songwriter and model Michael Thomas White chatted about his upcoming single ‘Red Light,” which will be released on September 29.
‘Red Light’
“I am most excited about this song and its music video,” he exclaimed about “Red Light.” “I really believe in this tune. The song is autobiographical, it started with a romance that began on the Internet, like most relationships do these days. We would drive around in California, and we would make out at red lights. I just wanted to capture that in a song,” he said with a sweet laugh.
“When the song came along, it was magic,” he said. “The actual recording took place at Power Station at Berklee NYC, which is an iconic recording studio where The Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi recorded.”
“All my idols went through there, so even though I didn’t feel I belonged there, it was okay. I was able to record live drums there and that brought so much more energy to the song,” he elaborated.
“I knew the song was special, so I had to do something unique with the music video. It comes out on Friday, and I am really excited. I really do think it’s my best song yet because it has a lot of special meaning to it,” he expressed.
‘I hope that ‘Red Light’ becomes a euphoric feeling of nostalgia, where it can take listeners back in a moment through time,” he said.
Music and inspirations
Regarding his music and songwriting inspirations, he said, “I try to write everything from personal experiences because I feel that those have extra meaning. I view every song as a time capsule of every moment in time in my life.”
“Usually, I am inspired by love, heartbreak, and I try to keep the music positive so that everyone from your little sister to your grandmother can enjoy listening to a Michael Thomas White song,” he said.
The digital age
On being an artist in the digital age, he said, “It has never been easier to be an artist… it is beautiful. I know for a fact that I wouldn’t have been able to do this 10 years ago. I would have been so unfulfilled in life.”
“Now with social media and the Internet, it is so easy to pursue music. I am really fortunate to be in this digital age even though it is more competitive than ever,” he said.
“You need to break through the noise but once you find a fanbase that is supportive, then you have found something good,” he acknowledged.
Dream duet choices in music
He listed Dua Lipa, Kacey Musgraves, and Taylor Swift as his dream female collaboration choices in music. “I love a good guy and girl duet, I think you get a little bit more versatility from that, especially in my genre of pop-country,” he said.
Future plans: more music
He revealed that there will be more new music coming from White in the future.
Success
White defined the word success simply as “getting to do what he loves to do each day and getting to prioritize that.”
His music is available on Apple Music and Spotify.
