Actor Michael Iskander chatted about starring in the drama series “House of David” on Prime Video.

The synopsis is: “House of David” tells the story of the ascent of the biblical figure, David, who eventually becomes the most renowned and celebrated king of Israel. The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride.

At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king. As Saul loses his power over his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss, and violence in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace. As one leader falls, another must rise.

Being a part of ‘House of David’ series

On being a part of this series, Iskander said, “It was amazing. It was such a beautiful experience, and honestly, just getting to tell this story of David.”

He remarked, “For me, one of the most amazing things about portraying David is trying to find his heart, and going through the same challenges and experiences that he is going through.

Iskander continued, “One of the most incredible things that happened on day one was actor Louis Ferreira, who plays Jesse, David’s father, and one of his first lines is from the Scripture and he says ‘Be strong, have courage, do not fear for fear is the enemy, fear is a thief.’ I think that was very timely, especially since a lion attacks David’s flock and he has to face his fear and he has to face this lion.”

“For me, it is just a reminder that on the other side of fear is who we truly are. David used God to overcome his fear, and that was an inspiration for me as well,” he noted.

“Playing David is something that has been a dream of mine for such a long time and I never thought I would have the chance to do it. Being able to tell David’s story means a lot to me,” he acknowledged.

“In a way, this is my worship. I am so thankful and I can’t wait for people to see in the show,” he added.

‘Kimberly Akimbo’ on Broadway

Iskander recalled his time in the original cast of the Tony award-winning musical “Kimberly Akimbo” as part of his Broadway debut. “It is such a different experience. I was so blessed to have the opportunity to portray Aaron in ‘Kimberly Akimbo,’ and I am also so lucky and blessed to portray David,” Iskander said.

Iskander praised Tony winners Victoria Clark and Bonnie Milligan for their performances in “Kimberly Akimbo.” “They are both so fantastic. They are amazing actresses,” he said.

Lessons learned from this screenplay

On the lessons learned from this screenplay, Iskander shared, It is such a big journey that the character goes through, and it is very hard to not draw lessons from David as well. On a more personal level, it taught me to grow in my faith and to have a stronger relationship with God.”

“It taught me to be strong and courageous, and to stand up against fear. Everybody has fear but we are all capable of overcoming it,” he concluded.
