Actor Michael Bishop chatted about starring in the hit series “Superman & Lois” on The CW, and being a part of the digital age.

‘Superman & Lois’ on The CW

“It has been going amazing,” he said about this series. “It is going incredible; I am loving every moment being a part of this project. I am having so much watching everyone fly around and Superman saving the day, and all these badass villains. It is so much fun.”

Portraying Jonathan Kent

On playing the role of Jonathan Kent, he said, “What’s not to like about Jonathan, he is such a great guy and such a great son. He is also a great brother and boyfriend. The dude just tries to do everything right, and I think we can all relate to that.”

“Jonathan is the voice for the audience at times, he is very reasonable, and he asks a lot of the questions that the audience should be asking. I like that I get to portray that. Jonathan is just so fun and lovable. There is nothing about him that I don’t like playing, I think he is a very reasonable and a very grounded character,” he elaborated.

Working with Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch

Bishop had favorable words about working with lead stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth “Bitsie” Tulloch. “Tyler Hoechlin is awesome to work, he is like Superman in real life. He is so kind to everyone and he makes everybody feel at home,” he said.

“Bitsie Tulloch is incredible,” Bishop exclaimed. “She is seriously one of the best actresses I’ve ever worked with. Bitsie is phenomenal to be in a scene with. She gives you everything that an actor could possibly need as a scene partner, she is also such a lovely person and so supportive. She is very giving, and very easy to work with. I felt so supported and welcomed by everyone.”

The digital age

On being an actor in the digital age, at a time when streaming and technology are so prevalent, Bishop said, “I think it’s a really exciting time to be an actor. Streaming only makes it easier to watch films and shows. There are so many new and exciting projects coming out, and if this writer’s strike goes well, it will make a huge difference.”

“Writers deserve to be getting paid more,” he said. “There is plenty of money available to go around in this industry. The writers are the backbone of our industry, and they write incredible scripts. It’s an exciting time to be in this industry with the digital age, there are more opportunities for us. Also, I binge-watch a lot of shows myself.”

Advice for hopefuls in acting

For young and aspiring actors, Bishop said, “Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it, it’s a very beautiful industry and there is plenty of space to go around. This industry is so fun, and if you treat people well and put in the work, there is no reason why you shouldn’t have a place in this industry. It’s a very welcoming business.”

Dream acting partners

Bishop listed Morgan Freeman, Ethan Hawke, Florence Pugh, and Ricky Gervais as his dream acting partners. “I think Ricky is hilarious. I think they are all cool people,” he said.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he responded, “Core Memories.” “There are a lot of firsts for me… first big TV show, first big film, first loves, and first big mistakes. I think there are a lot of firsts,” he said.

Superpower of choice

If he were to have any superpower, ironically enough, it would be “flight.” “Imagine, if I could get up right now and fly across the globe? That would be pure convenience,” he said. “Who doesn’t want that? You would save so much money on flights and driving, and it would be so much better for the planet.”

Success

On his definition of success, Bishop said, “Being able to do what I love for a living, whether that’s in my career or my personal life. The goal is to able to wake up every day and do what I love.”

Closing thoughts on ‘Superman & Lois’

“I hope the fans and viewers keep watching ‘Superman & Lois,” Bishop said. “Viewers will get hooked, it is one of those shows that if you start watching, you are going to have to watch through it, it’s a big commitment but you can binge it all on the digital platforms.

“I hope we get another season, and I hope they keep supporting us. It’s an incredible show with a great team of people around us,” he concluded.
