Metallica sells out Minneapolis stadium in less than 10 minutes

The show will take place on August 20, and this will be Metallica’s first rock concert at this venue, which is the new home of the Minnesota Vikings, as part of its opening weekend festivities.

Metallica will share the stage with such musical acts as Avenged Sevenfold, as well as Volbeat. This will be one of the few shows that Avenged Sevenfold will play in the United States this year. Danish metal group Volbeat will open the show with their unique blend of rock, metal and rockabilly.

Metallica was formed in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield. They have sold in excess of 110 million albums to date worldwide. The band had celebrated its 30-year anniversary in 2011 with a week’s worth of fan club concerts at the Fillmore Theater in San Francisco.

In December 2013, Metallica performed a rare concert in Antarctica where all of the fans and attendees listened through headphones, in an effort to protect the environment. With that live concert, the band made history by becoming the first act to ever play all seven continents (all within one year), and that subsequently earned them a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.
