Mergui listed Billie Eilish as his dream collaboration choice in the contemporary music scene.

‘Cry’ single

On the idea for his new radio single “Cry,” he said, “We had this idea of interpolating ‘Yellow Brick Road’ by Elton John and using part of the melody. the day after I had a session with a writer and producer called Dor Daniel that is now a good friend but this session was our first meeting.”

“I brought the idea to the table that day and we started writing cry without knowing if we’ll even be able to use that melody but right after, we sent the demo of ‘Cry’ to Elton,” he said.

“A few weeks later we got a note back from him saying he loved it and he approved. I couldn’t believe it, it was such a special moment,” he noted.

“This song is very close to my heart and means a lot to me since it’s about my family and friends,” he expressed.

“It’s about embracing vulnerability and creating the safe space for your loved ones to feel vulnerable with you, and vice versa,” he added.

Music and songwriting inspirations

Regarding his music and songwriting inspirations, he said, “In general, I always make sure I’m open-minded, and life inspires me in many ways. For my new music, I was very inspired by old timeless melodies that resonates with people all around the world.”

“Bringing these melodies a new life and writing my songs around them was such an inspiring creative process for me,” he acknowledged.

“A lot of this project also inspired by strings and music for movies, I definitely grew up on a lot of soundtracks for movies and I wanted to explore that, so in this project we recorded real strings, and made sure everything sounds cinematic,” he added.

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, Mergui stated, “It’s so interesting ,you know, it’s an open space and a melting pot of so many great creators from all around the world. I find myself in constant opportunity to be inspired and to inspire.”

“I think there is a such a beautiful thing in that,” he added.

Dream collaboration choice in music: Billie Eilish

When asked about his dream duet choices in music, he responded, “There are a lot! The first name that pops in my head is Billie Eilish. I think she’s a phenomenal artist and her voice is so unique. I can hear the song in my mind already.”

Future plans

“I have so much new music that I’m excited about and I can’t wait to share it with the whole world,” Mergui said with a smile.

Advice for young and aspiring musicians

For young and aspiring artists, he said, “I’m still learning about myself everyday, however, I would say: let people help you, but trust your instincts.

“You are unique and special as you are and the more you let bad influence get in, you might lose your own magic,” he underscored.

Success

On his definition of the word success, Mergui said, “To keep doing what I love and be close to the people I love. I can’t imagine success without them. My family and friends are my secret weapon.”

Closing thoughts about his new music

For his fans, he remarked about his new music, “I just want people to relate. I want to move them and be part of their journey.”

“I know why I wrote my songs, but I also know that everybody can see their own life in them. And with that, maybe making them feel like they’re not alone,” Mergui concluded.
