Meghan Trainor wins 2016 Grammy award for ‘Best New Artist’

It turns out that Digital Journal’s predictions for “Best New Artist” came true. Trainor bested Sam Hunt, Courtney Barnett, James Bay and Tori Kelly.

Last year’s winner, Sam Smith, presented Meghan Trainor with her Grammy award. In her emotional acceptance speech, Trainor remarked, as she wiped away tears from her eyes, “I’m a mess. Sorry. I have to thank LA Reid for looking at me like an artist instead of just a songwriter. Thank you LA Reid and Epic Records. I love you so much.”

Trainor went on to thank her parents (her mom and dad) for always believing in her. She expressed her gratitude towards the Grammys, and blew a kiss from the podium.

In January of 2016, Trainor took home the “Favorite Album” award at the People’s Choice Awards.

Her list of hit singles include “Dear Future Husband,” “Lips Are Movin’” and “All About That Bass.”
