Being Mary Jane, now in its third season and going stronger than ever, takes a bold new twist with the introduction of James Lee Taylor as the new love interest for lead actress Gabrielle Union. Being white and also English is an exciting turn, especially after the opening few episodes of the season with Mary Jane finding her feet again after the death of her close friend.
Taylor plays Eddie/”Gorgeous Guy,” a charming Englishman who catches Mary Jane’s eye in a secret member’s club. His first episode goes out this coming Tuesday, November 10, at 10 p.m.
Taylor said, “Working with Gabrielle was amazing. Firstly, she is absolutely beautiful and she’s such a cool character and just has everything under control at all times. I couldn’t have dreamed for a better debut role. I love the show and the character I get to play, it’s a really great team on-board both in front of and behind the camera and Gabrielle really made me feel welcome and one of that team from the get go. I remember the first shot of the first day, we had a kissing scene, and I remember introducing myself for the first time and being like ‘Hi Gab, I’m James, I know this is a strange one but have you eaten any nuts at all today, as I’m allergic and it wouldn’t work out too well for me.'”
He continued, “Of course, this made her smile and luckily she hadn’t, but as it happened, there were bowls of nuts all along the counter and she was so sweet and went along removing them all for me before we started shooting.”
“I can’t give too much away, but it should make some very exciting viewing over the second half of the season,” he said. “I also want to give a special mention to the director, Neema Barnette, who’s a legend. She really let me play and have freedom in my role and championed me and this really helped to get me up and running straight off the mark and I’m really proud of how it all turned out.”
He concluded, “It’s been a long hard slog, from moving to New York to acting school at 25, and getting into theater and playing Nikola Tesla off-Broadway to then moving to Los Angeles getting into short films and of course, becoming the face of Three Olives Vodka taking over from Clive Owen to now having a really cool part on a well-loved cult show… I’ve had to work my socks off but now it’s all finally starting to happen and all come together and really open the floodgates, and who knows? Maybe even one day I’ll get to play my dream role, 007.”
