Executive producer Precious V. Mayes chatted about making her acting debut as Dr. Belinda Kenway in Season 7 of “The Bay.”

Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg once said: “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” A woman that exemplifies this quotation is Precious V. Mayes.

Mayes has served as a leader in the healthcare industry for over 30 years, she runs several hospitals, and is the president and CEO of the Pacifica Hospital of the Valley.

‘The Bay’

In the most recent season of “The Bay,” created by Gregori J. Martin, she portrays Dr. Belinda Kenway. “It was pretty amazing to play her,” she said about Dr. Belinda Kenway. “Her character has evolved, it’s like peeling an onion, she has so many different layers that haven’t been exposed yet.”

“It has been fun to play her and to immerse myself in a character like that. It has been amazing to have the chemistry that I have with Kristos Andrews both on-screen and even off-screen, it’s an interesting dynamic. To have been written in the script by Gregori and Wendy [Riche] was great, and I hope that she gets written back in the next season,” she elaborated.

Mayes shared that she is looking forward to the show’s move to the streaming service Tubi. “I am very excited about it, and where it’s headed, especially to have the 100th episode on there,” she said. “The 100th episode is what every show aspires to have with success, and that opens up the tremendous amount of doors from the content perspective and the platform perspective. I can’t wait to see what the fans think about it, the new characters, and the dynamic.”

“There is a really interesting look that is evolving, and what could potentially happen next with ‘The Bay’ is pretty dramatic. The sky is the limit for this show and there are no boundaries for more success to grow this show at the level that it deserves to be seen,” she added.

Mayes’ acting work in Season 7 was praised by this journalist as a “revelation.” It felt like watching “Indoor Boys,” and Precious Mayes was our Carolee Carmello. “Again, Belinda is like peeling an onion,” she said. “It has been really fun to play her.”

‘The Magic’

She is also thrilled about the reception and success of the LANY holiday film “The Magic.” “The movie was fun. Fans love the character and the movie. It has tears, cries, and find that there is a humanity to it. My character, Donna, a lawyer hard boss lady, comes out rough in the beginning but has a change of heart,” she said.

To this day, her proudest moment was being honored with a special pandemic award at the 2021 Daytime Emmy Awards, since that recognition combines her love for the acting world as well as her background in the healthcare field.

“That was quite overwhelming, especially for helping people get back to work in a safe fashion. That was the most important award I have ever received. I felt very blessed,” she said.

‘The Raven’

She revealed that she will be playing the role of Mother Frances in the upcoming film “The Raven.” “What I love about playing all of these different roles is that they are all so drastically different and at the same time, there is a common thread through all of them. There is this similarity and a likeness to all of these characters that is great to portray,” she said.
