Frankie Grande is a jack of all trades. He is a dancer, actor, singer, producer, television host and a YouTube personality.
He chatted about his latest projects, which include his latest horror movie “Summoning Sylvia,” and being a part of the digital age. He is the older half-brother of global entertainment star Ariana Grande.
‘Summoning Sylvia’
Grande stars in the horror film “Summoning Sylvia,” which was written and directed by Alex Wyse and Wesley Taylor.
On being a part of “Summoning Sylvia,” Grande said, “It was just wonderful. It was very fast-paced and grueling, we shot the movie in 19 days. It was so rewarding, exciting, and so fulfilling to see it done and to see me on the screen. I am so proud of what we did, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. I thought it was really fun.”
“Veanne Cox was incredible, and Carolee Carmelo was the voice of the finale number,” he said. “Now, there are many fun pitches about what a sequel would look like.”
‘Indoor Boys’
For his acting work in the comedy series “Indoor Boys,” Grande won the 2020 Indie Series Award for “Best Guest Actor in a Comedy” for his portrayal of Tyler. “That was so nice, I still have the award right next to me, it’s right by the counter,” he said.
“That was my dream as an actor, especially to be acknowledged for my contributions to the field. It was my first award I had ever won for anything, so that was cool, and it meant a lot,” he added about his Indie Series Award win.
The digital age
On being an actor in the digital age, now with streaming and technology being so prevalent, Grande said, “I think it’s very fun, I got really creative during the COVID pandemic.”
“Now, I feel like there is nothing I can’t do. I know how to put myself on tape and do videos for charities all by myself now. I can do all that on my computer and it looks and sounds really good. I do feel less scared and less intimated by this whole digital new world that we are in,” he added.
Advice for hopefuls in acting
For young and aspiring entertainers, he said, “I have been working for a very long time and I’ve been fighting an uphill battle. Starting as a Broadway performer and transitioning into YouTube and reality TV, it has been hard for me to return to my acting roots and be taken seriously.”
Grande continued, “I’ve had to deal with a lot of people telling me ‘no.’ My advice to young people is to ‘never take no as an answer.’ If there is one door closing, there is another one opening right around the corner. If this is your dream, do not give up, go ahead and pursue your dreams. Keep pushing.”
“People think that I was handed everything on a silver platter, simply being Frankie Grande, but that was not the case. It has actually been really difficult and an uphill battle. In the end, it was all worth it and I wouldn’t have changed a thing,” he added.
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Grande responded, “The Husband Era.”
If he were to do any track and field event, he revealed that he would do sprinting, because he is a fast sprinter, and in swimming, he listed the butterfly as his favorite stroke, even though, he swims the freestyle the fastest.
Success
On his definition of the word success, Grande said, “Pursuing your dreams and finding gratitude in every moment along the way. Being on the path towards the pursuit of your ultimate dream.”
