Christian singer-songwriter Matthew West chatted about his new release “How Good of God.”

On his latest single “How Good of God,” he said, “It’s exciting, I almost forget that I am releasing it. We release songs so often now. It feels like a summertime song to me with a rootsy vibe.”

“This song was inspired by my daughter during the pandemic,” he said.

“I hope that people realize that no matter how long the list of problems in your life is if you are intentional about gratitude, you will realize how blessed we really are. I am excited,” he said.

Future plans

He shared that he is working on a whole new project right now. “I have been busy,” he admitted. “I have a book that is coming out in September and I am so fired up about that. There are so many cool things going on.”

“I’m not a new artist but I sure feel like a new artist,” he said about his single “Me On Your Mind” hitting No. 1 on the Christian Music Charts. “It’s exciting to keep putting music out and hopefully, people will continue liking it.”

West was honored as “Male Artist of the Year” at the K-LOVE Fan Awards. “This took me 10 years,” he said with a sweet laugh.

He shared that touring has been going well. “It has been fun to be back out on the road,” he said. “It has been fun to make music again with my band, that’s for sure.”

On the title of the current chapter of his life, West responded, “Priority Changes.” “I’m a person that is always going and always chasing after things, that’s the way I’m wired, and I think that’s all good. Now, I’m at the point where I am watching my daughters grow up and I don’t want to miss that either. I write a lot about that. I am making sure that my priorities are in check and that I am chasing the right things for the right reasons,” he explained.

“I want to make the most of the time that I have with my family,” he admitted. “The biggest lessons in my life are not on stage, they are inside the four walls of my house.”

“The music industry has taught me to be resilient and you have to take rejection for what it is,” he said. “If you make music that is honest, vulnerable, and just real, there is always a place for you. For me, it’s about chasing real, honest, and vulnerable, and hopefully, that continues to resonate with people.”

West listed Thomas Rhett as his dream collaboration choice in music. “I love country music,” he said.

If he were to have any superpower, it would be for him to “eat all of the ice creams he wants without gaining a single pound.”
