‘Master of None’ season 2 trailer conceals promised love interest (Includes first-hand account)

Cable and streaming networks have been gradually diversifying their programming, featuring not just shows focused on one ethnicity but actually casting people more reflective of our multicultural spaces. Moreover, many of these shows are being driven by the minority stars. One of the most lauded original series to meet these standards is Netflix‘s Master of None. The brainchild of former Parks and Recreation star Aziz Ansari, the breakthrough comedy deals with typical sitcom themes; but they also address issues of being a minority actor in Hollywood or just being a woman anywhere.

In one episode, Ansari’s character, Dev, is up for the role in a TV comedy… and even though there are three roles and they really like two of the brown actors who auditioned, they can only cast one. In another, the opening act juxtaposes what it’s like for a woman to walk home at night from a bar alone versus a man. The show is one of the smartest and most relevant on television, but it’s been more than a year since it premiered and fans want more. Thankfully the end is finally in sight as Netflix has released a trailer for season 2.

(Spoiler) Having separated from his girlfriend at the end of season one, Dev decided to go to Italy. Set to a distinguishable Italian tune and alternating between black-and-white images reminiscent of classic Italian cinema, the trailer shows him enjoying traditional country pursuits, such as Vespa rides through the country and espressos. Having gained confidence, Dev goes on a number of dates upon returning to New York; but these scenes are followed by him coming home and collapsing on the couch, indicating his return to the dating scene has not been easy. However, this season’s logline suggests a turn for the better: “After traveling abroad, Dev returns to New York to take on challenges in his personal and family life, a new career opportunity, and a complex, developing relationship with someone very meaningful to him.”

Ex-girlfriend Rachel (Noel Wells) is unsurprisingly absent, though Dev’s best friends Arnold (Eric Wareheim) and Denise (Lena Waithe) are keeping his spirits elevated. His real-life parents also return as Dev’s parents in the show, while Bobby Cannavale and John Legend will be making appearances. And could there be a dance number? Audiences will just have to wait for Master of None‘s return May 12 to find out.
