Martyn Ford, British actor, social media influencer, and bodybuilder, chatted about starring in “House of David” on Prime Video where he plays Goliath opposite Michael Iskander’s David.

Experience doing ‘House of David’

The synopsis is: “House of David” tells the story of the ascent of the biblical figure, David (Michael Iskander), who eventually becomes the most renowned and celebrated king of Israel. The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride.

At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king.

As Saul loses his power over his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss, and violence in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace. As one leader falls, another must rise.

On being a part of the new historical drama TV series “House of David,” Ford remarked, “It was a very good experience.”

Portraying Goliath

“For me, the opportunity to play Goliath, learn from the character, and try and add to that character was incredible,” he admitted.

Lessons learned from this show

On the lessons learned from this series, he stated, “The one thing that I would like to take out of it, and I would want everyone else to take out of it is ‘don’t just judge someone and assume they are going to be a certain way’.”

“Also, just have some time to really absorb situations and opportunities and how that could impact individuals moving forward,” he noted.

“We are not all born good, we are not all born bad, but there are things that happen within life that will change directions, so that’s what I took out of it,” Ford said.

The digital age

On being an actor in the digital age, Ford said, “This show is bizarrely nonexistent, and I mean that in a good way. We went back to old-school, and back to the roots with the locations and the costumes, and the feel and the shooting.”

“It was lovely to be in a real environment with real people and have real extras, and so on and so forth,” he noted.

Ford continued, “One of the joyous moments of the show was that none of it was done on post regards to the size and the movement. It was all in real life with just camera angles and tricks, so it was nice to have that authenticity and realness.”

“I’ve worked on films where technology has been extremely prevalent, and it’s so difficult to sort of capture the essence of mankind at times,” he acknowledged.

“I think we did a great job of creating a very modern environment in film which felt very traditional in storyline, and also it felt respectful,” he added.

Closing thoughts on ‘House of David

For fans and viewers, he said about “House of David,” “I think for myself it taught me not to judge people on first appearances, and to try and understand them and listen to situations, and how those could change someone’s outcomes.”
