Acclaimed actress Marilu Henner chatted about starring in the new Hallmark mystery “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New.”
It was directed by Jessica Harmon while Teena Booth wrote the screenplay. “I am very excited. I love the series, and I am so excited to revisit it and give the audience something that they have not seen before like this prequel,” she said.
“I think the audience knows the series well enough that they will pick up the little Easter eggs we have in this movie. I am excited for them to see it, and it was fun for me to play the character at a more vulnerable time in her life,” she added.
‘Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New’
Henner stars alongside Skyler Samuels, Evan Roderick, and Madison Smith. “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New” will premiere on Friday, June 9th on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. “Skyler is great, she has that spirit and that earnestness to her. She is just a great girl and a wonderful actress. It was great to work with her,” she said.
“Madison Smith is a character, he is funny. He plays a very complicated character in this but I think he did a great job,” she added.
Synopsis of ‘Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New’
The synopsis is: Post-college, Young Aurora Teagarden (Skyler Samuels) finds herself back home near her mother, Aida (Marilu Henner) in Lawrenceton to pursue her grad degree.
Working as a teacher’s assistant in a crime fiction class, Aurora is struggling to settle on a thesis. To support her schooling and life, Aurora also waitresses at the local diner at night, where she shares her love of researching true crime with her friend Sally, who is set to be married, and police officer Arthur (Evan Roderick).
When Sally’s fiancé doesn’t show up at the wedding rehearsal, Maid of Honor Aurora gets Arthur to help her search for him. When they discover a body, everyone assumes it is Sally’s tardy groom, but when it turns out to be someone else, Sally’s fiancé becomes the main suspect.
“I hope the fans that know the show and the franchise look for the clues,” she foreshadowed. “I think they will be pleasantly surprised, and I think they are going to have fun figuring out some of the hints we’ve dropped.”
Advice for young and aspiring actors
For young and aspiring actors, Henner said, “The hardest thing to learn to be is the best version of yourself, because nobody else can play that part. I auditioned 40 commercials before I got one, and then I instantly booked 72 of them in 2.5 years. In each audition, it is important to bring so much of your own personality to that audition. Once I started doing that, my entire career changed.”
Golden Globe nominations for ‘Taxi’
Throughout her career in the entertainment business, Henner has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards for “Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Television Series” for her acting work in “Taxi.”
“Those nominations felt so great,” she said. “‘Taxi’ was such a golden time in all of our lives. The ‘Taxi’ gang gets together, we have done 16 Zooms since the pandemic started three years ago, and we are so current with one another.”
Stage of her life
On the title of the current chapter of her life, Henner said, “Keep on Moving.” “Motion is the lotion,” she said with a sweet laugh.
Success
Henner defined the word success as “having a fabulous, loving family, and everybody happy, healthy, and thriving.” “Also, success is doing what you love,” she said.
