Episode nine of Maria The Virgin Witch, “With a Grain of Salt,” is currently streaming on FUNimation for paid subscribers. Free subscribers can watch the same episode six days from now on March 15th.
The episode begins with the worst form of hypocrisy to be orchestrated by organized religion let alone the Roman Catholic Church. Episode eight concluded with Bernard giving Galfa a top-priority mission, forcefully take away Maria’s chastity.
There is the sheer irony that Maria is actually a pure person even though she is a witch.
Prejudice is something that we learn on our own or has been pre-programmed into your mind. It reminded me of the latest episode to Cross Ange when Lizardia, free from captivity, explained that Mana users were programmed to hate the Normas.
This is because the Normas were a threat to Embryo’s plans.
You should already know that Michael, the same archangel, linked Maria’s powers to her virginity. Maria loses her magical abilities the moment that she has sexual intercourse, which is why Galfa has invaded her home.
Priapus and Ezekiel arrive in time to save Maria, but she is unable to use her powers as the situation becomes ironic. Maria’s powers are supposed to be tied to her virginity, but Galfa was foiled before he could take his junk out.
Gilbert, Brother Bernard’s understudy, quickly leads military forces to take Maria in.
It makes me think that the Catholic Church in general only cares about consolidating its own power and influence without giving regard to the people. I will admit that Pope Francis is doing all he can to clean up the Catholic Church.
I was shocked when it was implied that Galfa only had to violate Maria with his metal arm to take her virginity. But I had me wondering why Maria couldn’t use magic since there was no sex. I will have to say that Michael needs to be specific on what constitutes to losing your virginity.
Oral sex doesn’t necessarily count as losing your virginity!
Masturbation doesn’t count as losing your virginity!
Using your hands or sex toys doesn’t count as losing your virginity!
This next scene, with Maria being bound, reminds me on why I support the separation of Church and State. I wonder what would have happened in Maria existed in World War II or an alternate version that was portrayed in The Man In The High Castle.
It got f—ked when Bernard subtly forced Martha, Ann’s grandmother, to throw a stone at Maria.
There is a saying in Christianity that says to let the person throw the first stone if he had not sinned.
Martha sinned by accepting Maria’s medicine according to the Catholic Church doctrine on witches, which means she shouldn’t have thrown the stone. It would have a better impact if Bernard forced Ann to throw the stone instead of Martha.
I was ultimately shocked when Galfa told Lord Gillaume that he did not have sex with Maria, but he made sure to neutralize her magic.
The episode continued getting interesting when Viv decided to help rescue Maria. I was shocked that Viv “developed a conscience” and didn’t hesitate to attack Michael when he appeared before her. I loved the theological debate between Viv and Michael.
Viv wowed me when she bluntly told Michael that he was a puppet.
Another theological debate took place, which surprised me, between Maria and Bernard. I think Maria wanted to get thrown in prison because she can have serious face-to-face time with Bernard.
It ultimately becomes a battle to determine what is God’s will.
I loved how Maria subtly ripped Bernard a new @$$hole when she accused him of preaching things that he doesn’t even understand. I was shocked when Bernard panicked when Maria made him actually about the Will of God and everything else.
Bernard’s reaction was something I did not expect. I was expecting Bernard to beat God into Maria.
I had a WTF look on my face as Bernard thanked Maria for the intellectual debate and kissed her foot afterward.
This episode of Maria The Virgin Witch was very entertaining in an intellectual way and I am glad that Maria decided to let Bernard have it. I think Maria should convert to Buddhism because the Dalai Lama and other Buddhist figures would get a kick out of her.
