Veteran actress Margaret Colin (“Gossip Girl”) chatted about starring in “Three Wisest Men,” which premieres on November 15th on the Hallmark Channel.

First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt once said: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” This quote applies to Margaret Colin.

‘Three Wisest Men’ experience

The synopsis of is: Three siblings deal with personal changes and their mother’s decision to sell the family home before the holidays. Between in-laws, wild animals, and a mall Santa, they try to make the holidays perfect.

On her experience in “Three Wisest Men,” she said, “It was joyful, wacky, and it just feels like I’m getting away with murder. Those guys (Andrew Walker, Paul Campbell, and Tyler Hynes) are the most fun and the most positive. They think I hang the moon.”

“So yeah, when they’re goofy, they make me laugh really hard,” she admitted. When they let me scare them, they are just such high quality, great character people. They’ve come up with these characters that are a joy to watch and be around.”

Working with Andrew Walker

When asked about working with Andrew Walker, she exclaimed, “Andrew is a doll. He is a good man, a good father, a good husband, and a great playmate on camera.”

Playing Barbara

On playing Barbara, she said, “I get a chance to play a woman who has such a healthy investment in her adult sons. I can show all the love that I have for my sons with them. It’s not cheesy and we’re not making fun of it. So, it’s really fun and I also like to move the story along.”

“I really like to play a character that moves the story along,” she admitted. “So, that’s a joy!”

Lessons learned from this Hallmark trilogy

On the lessons learned from this Hallmark trilogy, she shared, “It taught me that I really like going away to work in Vancouver.”

“I have a new appreciation for the stereotypical niceness of Canadians,” she said with a sweet laugh.

The digital age

On being a part of the digital age, Colin said, “I need a son. I need a millennial to help me set it up. In my Zooms, I have to make sure that the right books are in the background. So, the digital world is a little intrusive.”

“I like getting dressed up and getting ready and going out and meeting people rather than having them come into my home,” she added.

Advice for young and aspiring actors

For young and emerging actors, she said, “Train. Watch people that you admire and figure out what you admire about them.”

“See as much theater as you can, perform when you get a chance to, and be around better actors than you are,” she added.

Dialogue-heavy

When asked how she handled being dialogue-heavy in her soap opera days, she said, “Well, I had a younger brain then.”

“When I did ‘The Edge of Night,’ it was only a half-hour show. So, it wasn’t too dialogue-heavy but once we got into ‘As the World Turns, we were carrying like the whole month of February working every day. You would learn the idea of the story, and then, you would learn the lines,” she explained.

“You can look at the lines, learn the lines, maybe run the lines with your scene partner, and then drop the script on the floor and go for it,” she added.

Future plans

Regarding her future plans, Colin remarked, “I’m excited about this movie because I’m having a Watch Party for ‘Three Wisest Men’ on Saturday. Women and guys that I volunteer with on Saturday are going to come on over here,” she said.

“We’re going to have some prosecco and some chocolate chip cookies and watch the movie,” she said.

“Then, I’ve got a film called ‘Talks.’ That’s an independent film that we shot with a great group of women in New Jersey,” she said. “In that movie, I play a very toxic plastic surgeon,” she elaborated.

“Then, I will be doing a new Broadway show this spring,” she foreshadowed.

Stage of her life

On the title of the current chapter of her life, she revealed, “Getting ready for Thanksgiving.”

“I’m getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’m gearing up for the holidays,” she said.

Superpower of choice

Her superpower of choice would be “diffusing conflict.”

Success

On her definition of the word success, Colin said, “Having some peace knowing that I’m doing the work I’m supposed to be doing in my family, faith, and in my work. That’s success.”

Message for her fans

For her fans and supporters, she said, “Thank you! I hope you enjoy this movie. I want them to have a laugh and to see how nice it is to be straightforward with your emotions, and not be cynical.”

“It’s good entertainment to see three brothers (quality men) having a wacky time and it’s not corny, nor cynical, nor superhero. That’s really what I want people to get out of this film,” she acknowledged.

“These fine actors to entertain you with good character stories,” she concluded.
