Singer-songwriter Magnus Ferrell chatted about his new single “Miss Me Vendetta” and being an artist in the digital age.

The song was just released via Visva Records/Republic Records. Ferrell is also a producer and multi-instrumentalist.

‘Miss Me Vendetta’ single

On his new single, Ferrell said, “It has been great! It has definitely been an improvement from everything else I released prior, and that’s all I can ask for.”

“I am just building on what I had before. The song certainly has influences from the music era of 2010,” he added.

Music and songwriting inspirations

On his music and songwriting inspirations, he said, “I started playing piano from a young age (about five years old), and then, that turned into jazz influences, which I did from ages 13 to 18.”

“So, it started with jazz greats such as Miles Davis and that turned into more 80s and 90s and 00s pop artists such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake, and Bruno Mars. Those are definitely the main influences for me,” he elaborated.

Future plans

On his future plans, he shared. “Just to put out as much new music as possible and to get into a release cycle every eight weeks where there is a new single out.”

“I want to continue to put out songs and play live, and just continue to build,” he added.

The digital age

On being a recording artist in the digital age, Ferrell said, “It’s interesting. With social media and all these networks, it really is the modern age of handing out your mixtape going door to door.”

“That’s how you do it,” he noted. “You need to continue to push and get your music out to every corner of the world on the Internet as you can.”

“It is such a powerful thing when it hits. It’s harder but it can be more lucrative and more rewarding if you just stick with it,” he added.

Dream duet choices in music

A Los Angeles, California, native, Ferrell listed Anderson .Paak and Billie Eilish as his dream duet choices in music.

Singing in the studio vs. performing live

When asked if there is a difference singing in the studio vs. performing live, Ferrell responded, “There is a complete difference. I think it works two different muscles.”

“In the studio, 90 percent of it, you are going over a section over and over again until you get it right. During a live performance, you are going through a full song, so it’s a completely different muscle,” he explained.

“You are also interacting with the crowd and with the band. You hear yourself live and it is more improvisational. There is also a different energy to it,” he expanded.

“I feel that playing live is the best way to get better as an artist, whereas in the studio it is just a different muscle,” he added.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his live, Ferrell said, “A new beginning.”

“This is when the work starts; it’s a new beginning,” he admitted.

Superpowers of choice

Ferrell listed flying and teleportation as his superpowers of choice.

“My day would become a lot more efficient with teleportation,” he said with a sweet laugh.

Success

Regarding his definition of the word success, “There are a lot of things I can’t control, so success to me from a baseline is to just be able to live and to be able to survive from only doing music; that’s success to me.

“Also, being able to impact other people with my music in the same way that other music has inspired me whether that’s for 50 people or 50,000 people, it doesn’t matter to me,” he elaborated.

“Music is the only thing I know and it’s the only thing I ever want to do,” he added.

Closing thoughts on the new music

For his fans, he said about the new music, Ferrell said, “This is truly just the beginning. I love the new single and I am so happy that it’s out.”

“I am that much more excited to put out the new music. We are getting into the studio and really trying to master and hone our craft, especially with the new tracks. I feel like I’m getting better each time at mastering my sound,” he elaborated.

“The new music is going to be so much more mature, and it is going to continue to build on the things we have out now,” he concluded.
