Pop singer-songwriter Madison Watkins chatted about her breakthrough EP “Letting Go.”

How did you approach the song selection process for the new EP ‘Letting Go’?

I made about 80 songs in a year’s time. I wanted to make sure I found the songs that I connected to the most to choose for this moment.

What is your personal favorite song on there?

Picking a favorite song is like picking a favorite child…. They are all different, but you love them individually in different ways.

I think “Letting Go” is a song that I need in my daily life to tell myself to live in the moment, and let go of the past. I love the way it makes me feel.

What inspires your music and songwriting?

Everything inspires me. My life, other people’s lives, breakups, relationships, travel, God- I think life is so interesting because you can literally walk around and find anything to write a song about.

I am a deep feeler, so a lot of my songs are about feelings too!

How did the music video for “You Won’t” come about?

I was inspired by a performance I saw with Lady Gaga. She was sitting at a piano with a beautiful dress on singing one of her songs, super stripped down.

I knew that I wanted to show the true essence of the song, and that’s why I decided to play piano and sing it, instead of having the track with the full rendition behind me.

How does it feel to be an artist in the digital age? (Now with streaming, technology, and social media being so prevalent)

I’ll be honest with you, sometimes it’s hard being an artist in the digital age. We feel like we have to do it all. Be great at social media, be a great songwriter, be a great content creator, be a great interview, be basically good at everything.

Back in the day, they would just make people superstars based off of their songs and their music – now we have to do it all.

What do your plans for the future include?

I have big dreams in my career, such as selling out stadiums and traveling the world – but the most important thing in the future of my career is the women that I will touch.

I have a huge heart for the next generation of little girls that are looking up to artists like me. I want to be a good role model for them and show them that they are loved, seen, and known.

What is your advice for young and emerging artists?

Follow your instincts, follow your heart, and no matter what people say, you know what art is going to touch the world, so keep making it.

Which artists would you like to do a dream collab with someday and why?

My two favorite artists in the world are Bruno Mars and Tori Kelly. Tori and I have sang together and keep up on socials. She has always been a huge inspiration to me, and I think she has the best voice in the world.

Bruno is the best performer and also has one of the most amazing voices in the world. I know a lot of people wanna work with him, but it’s because of his incredible talent and songwriting ability.
