Actress Madison Lawlor chatted about starring in the new Passionflix movie “Wait With Me.”
Colleen Davie Janes directed the movie, and she co-wrote the screenplay with David A. Gregory, which is based on the book “Wait With Me” by Amy Daws. “The team we had on ‘Wait With Me’ was awesome, everyone involved was on the same page in telling the story the best that we possibly could,” she said.
“Colleen had such a strong vision on set, which is so helpful as an actor, to know that you are all moving in the same direction. The director is really the captain of the ship and Colleen was such an advocate for the story and our north star in making sure that we were all on the same page,” she elaborated.
Lawlor continued, “We actually didn’t have David A. Gregory on set, but I am so thankful for his script and wonderful interpretation of Amy’s book. Having Amy on set was really the biggest gift an actor could ask for. I really felt a responsibility to make Amy proud and do her book justice. Having her input on set, as well as being able to gauge her enthusiasm, really gave me the confidence I needed to bring Kate to life.”
The synopsis is: When romance novelist Kate Smith (Madison Lawlor) suddenly gets writer’s block as she’s beginning the final installment of her international bestselling steamy “Bed ‘n Breakfast” series, she’ll do pretty much anything to get her groove back.
Like sneak into a Tire Depot waiting room because her words flow there just like complimentary coffee-smooth, sweet, and scorching hot. She manages to fly under the radar until the rugged and suave mechanic, Miles Hudson, (Andrew Biernat) notices the quirky redhead slinking in and out of the employees only entrance. She is way too intriguing to blow the whistle on. Doing a test-drive of her new book idea sounds like a much better plan.
Playing Kate in ‘Wait With Me’
On playing Kate, Lawlor said, “I love when characters have a sense of humor and playfulness about them, and Kate definitely possesses those qualities, which was one of my favorite things to tap into. Amy does a beautiful job of creating dynamic heroines and I loved exploring all the different sides of Kate’s personality and/or alter egos.”
Andrew Biernat
Lawlor had nice words about starring opposite Andrew Biernat as her leading man. “Doing this film with Andrew was an absolute pleasure,” she admitted. “Andrew not only makes everyone around him feel at ease and comfortable, but he also takes the work very seriously, which I appreciate. He is such a kind and generous actor and I felt so lucky to have him as my partner in crime.”

The digital age
On being an actress in the digital age, at a time when streaming and technology are so prevalent, she said, “Although I am such a fan of going to the theater, I think there is something wonderful about bringing niche films to a wider audience. I am so happy that our film can be seen around the world on Passionflix and Amazon.”
“Films have the opportunity to bring people together in such a different way than before the digital era. I always prefer to see films in the cinema, but I am thankful for this digital era in making films more accessible for people,” she said.
“Ultimately, when you make a film, you want it to be seen, I think these digital platforms really help facilitate a wider viewing for films and help get the story out there to more people,” she added.
Plans for the future
Regarding her future plans, she said, “I have a holistic interest in filmmaking. I started directing commercially a few years ago and have always wanted to direct narratively as well.”
“I am lucky enough to work with an amazing collective of women who I just co-wrote and co-produced my first feature with (Juniper, available on Amazon and Showtime) and we are currently in pre-production on our next feature. I hope to continue acting in projects that I am passionate about as well as create my own,” Lawlor said.
Success
On her definition of success, Lawlor said, “Success to me means chasing what you love. I feel so lucky to be able to be a storyteller. As the famous saying goes, “if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” To me, success is just that, being able to do what I love every single day.”
Lawlor concluded about “Wait With Me,” “It is a romantic comedy that will hopefully make you laugh, cry and disappear into a different world for 90 minutes. This film was made with so much love and I hope that the viewers have just as much fun watching it as we had making it.”
