Portraying Young Lorraine

On playing her character Young Lorraine, Lawlor said, “It was fun exploring her. This is my first time exploring a character who is real, and she has been portrayed by someone for so many years.

“So, it was interesting to dive into the real Lorraine, as well as Vera’s performance of Lorraine and explore what that means and melding the character from both perspectives,” she explained.

Working with Orion Smith as her leading man

Lawlor had great words about working with actor Orion Smith as her leading man.

“Orion is amazing. He is so wonderful, genuine and grounded as a human being,” she said. “His presence is just incredible, and I felt very safe with him. He was so supportive, and we were really in it together.”

“So, it was nice to have a partner that was just there with you that you trusted. He is awesome,” Lawlor admitted.

Lessons learned from ‘The Conjuring’ screenplay

On the lessons learned from “The Conjuring” screenplay, Lawlor said, “Well, I think the stakes with horror are so high and the world is so intense. So, you fully commit to the stakes of this world where everything is really intense.”

“I think there is just a freedom about being able to really let go and immerse yourself in this universe,” she added.

Transition from ‘Wait with Me’ to ‘The Conjuring’

She discussed her transition from doing the Passionflix rom-com “Wait with Me” to “The Conjuring.”

“Well, this is totally different,” she admitted. “This is my first time doing a really large-scale horror franchise. It’s a totally different headspace, and not a comedy, though.”

“I do think that the relationship between Ed and Lorraine is a love story in the middle of this horror universe, that I think is it’s actually the beating heart of the film and one of the main reasons that fans have fallen in love with it,” she elaborated.

“Working with Colleen Davie Jones (the director) and David A. Gregory (the writer) on that project was fantastic. They were so great, and I had such a fun time on that project,” she said.

Future plans

Regarding her future plans, she shared, “I have a film that I’ve co-written and co-produced that’s also coming out in September. It’s premiering at Fantastic Fest called ‘Theater is Dead’ and I’m really excited about it. So, that’s what’s next on the docket aside from ‘The Conjuring’.”

Stage of her life

On the title of the current chapter of her life, she said, “Saying ‘yes’ to new things and experiences.”

“I’ve really been trying to say ‘yes’ more to get myself outside of my comfort zone,” she explained.

Superpower of choice

Lawlor listed “teleportation” as her superpower of choice.

The digital age

On being an actress in the digital age, she said, “It’s interesting. I think there is more flexibility and freedom. You can travel more, you can be in different places, and you can still be involved in the industry, and you can still audition.”

“I do like the flexibility that we have with self-tapes and everything,” she acknowledged.

Hobbies

Aside from acting and screenwriting, she enjoys photography.  “I love taking pictures,” she admitted.

Success

Regarding her definition of success, she said, “Success is a tiered thing. I think it’s feeling fulfilled.”

“In terms of creative success, I think it’s working with people who inspire you on projects that inspire you and that light your fire and doing things that you really care about,” she expanded.

Closing thoughts on ‘The Conjuring’

For fans and viewers, she expressed, “I hope that they’re really excited and satisfied with this final chapter. I hope that they are scared, and I hope that they watch it with friends, and they experience the roller coaster ride together.”
