MacGyver is coming back to television

As of right now, CBS hasn’t order MacGyver to series, but the network is committed to making the pilot. Also, this version of MacGyver will be in his 20s and will be recruited into a clandestine organization, which is where he uses his unconventional skills to solve problems, all in an effort to prevent disasters from happening.

The original MacGyver that aired back in the 80s was produced by Henry Winkler, and Winkler will return to work on the rebooted series. Also returning behind the scenes is R. Scott Gemmill, NCIS LA‘s executive producer.

The original version of MacGyver ran from 1985 to 1992, and was aired on ABC. The show starred Richard Dean Anderson as a secret agent who used household items more often than he used guns.

MacGyver was picked up for a spinoff, but it never made it past a pilot episode. The show also spawned off two made-for-TV movies in 1994.

In 2012, Wan signed on to direct a big-screen adaption of the show, but nothing ever came about.

MacGyver isn’t the only show from the 80s and 90s to get a reboot, as other shows include Full House, Twin Peaks and the X-Files.
