Actor Lukas Haas (“Witness”) chatted about starring in the thriller “Cash Out,” which will be released in theaters, digital, and on Demand on April 26th via Saban Films.
Haas portrays Shawn Goddard, and he stars opposite such actors as John Travolta, Kristin Davis, and rapper Quavo.
‘Cash Out’
On his experience in “Cash Out,” he remarked, “It was awesome. It was a really cool experience because it was just fun. It had all fun people, a fun script, and a fun subject matter. It was pretty light, and we just had a blast together. It really was a great experience.”
Playing Shawn Goddard
On playing his character Shawn Goddard, Haas said, “I like that Shawn is just thinks he can do anything and that everything will work out just fine but he is completely incompetent, and he just doesn’t know what he is doing at all, so that juxtaposition makes for a good character. That made it a lot of fun for him to be oblivious to everything. It was a light and fun character to get to play.”
Working with John Travolta and Kristin Davis
Haas had great words for his scene partners John Travolta and Kristin Davis. “They are both awesome,” he exclaimed. “John just lights up a room, and he is a very happy guy and a sweet man.”
“Obviously, he is an incredible pro,” Haas said about Travolta. “We really worked the scenes out and we made sure that they flow well. John is really great at working with everyone together to make sure that the scene works the best that it possibly can. John was amazing to work with and our rapport was perfect.”
“While I didn’t have that many scenes with Kristin, she is just a sweet, lovely, and amazing woman. We had a lot of great conversations,” he said.
“Honestly, everyone on that movie was really cool and sweet. We all had a blast making it, so hopefully that translates well on the screen,” Haas added.
The digital age
On being an actor in the digital age, Haas said, “It’s funny because it just happens. You can reminisce about the old days and look at how it used to be, but it doesn’t matter because it is what is now. You need to get on board. There are pluses and minuses to each situation.”
Hass continued, “Back in the day, things used to be a little more isolated, where you would make a film and it wasn’t blasted out everywhere. It was more of an intimate experience even to publicize a movie, where it was a different thing and there is a lot of enjoyment in the way that it worked.”
“Now, in the new way, it expands all these other things, and it might make some of the things that was cool about the past nostalgic about it. Back in the day, I would have these lights on me, and I would be going from room to room, and things would happen in-person,” he elaborated.
“Now, I can sit in my hotel room, and we can have nice chats together, in two completely different places, where it’s a different experience but it’s cool too,” he added.
Stage of his life
Regarding the title of the current chapter of his life, Haas said, “Owning myself more.”
“As you get older, you start to see your path more clearly,” he said. “I am less pulled by outside things, and I have a more definitive idea of what it is that I want to do and how I want to do it. That’s where I am.”
Success
On his definition of the word success, Haas said, “To me, success is accomplishing my goals. If I have a goal to accomplish something, and I do that, then that’s a success.”
“Generally, I like challenging myself as an actor, where I love playing roles that I am not even sure I can play. I like tackling different things and challenging myself. Whenever I do that, and accomplish it, that’s always a feeling of accomplishment and success,” he elaborated.
Closing thoughts on ‘Cash Out’
For his fans and viewers, he concluded about the film “Cash Out,” “I want people to have a great time. I want them to have fun because that is what this movie is all about.”
