Long Island entertainer Lorena Cajes talks music and dancing (Includes interview)

Her greatest musical influence is Taylor Swift from a songwriting standpoint. Cajes’ music contains elements of acoustic, singer-songwriter and pop-rock. “It all started off with me and my guitar, but when I started recording, I experimented with different sounds. Some songs are more pop, some are more mellow and acoustic, while others are more rock and dance,” she said.

Cajes is working on a full-length video for her new single “Numb,” which she listed as one of her all-time favorite songs of hers. “I want this to be the big one, and I would like to do some shows,” she said.

Regarding her future plans, the songstress said, “I spent two years recording my album, so I have over 50 songs recorded, and now I have to pick the best 12. I want to release as many songs as I can. I was very focused on the recording process and I just want to get my music out there.”

Yet another musical inspiration for Cajes is acclaimed pop singer-songwriter Christina Perri, and she tipped her hat to the songstress by covering “Jar of Hearts” on her YouTube channel. “Christina is such a big influence. Her vocals are very mellow and some of them are sad, and she has a few happy songs. Her song ‘Human’ is empowering,” she said.

For hopefuls who wish to make it in the music industry, Cajes underscored that it is all about perseverance. “Giving up was never an option,” she said.

Over the last five years, she has devoted a lot of studio time, thus perfecting her craft. “I spent so much time there, but it went by fast. It didn’t feel like I was there for a long time,” she said.

Aside from music, she has taken acting classes and went to several auditions, and she hopes to use these skills in the future. She started dancing from a young age, being a part of a Paraguayan folk group. “We danced with bottles on our heads, so that is what opened up performing for me,” she said. “I danced with five bottles, and every one picks up at least one. I loved dancing in front of people and singing in front of people and writing my own music.”

Cajes listed Joey McIntyre from New Kids on The Block as her dream male duet choice. “Joey did Broadway and that influenced me to go into musical theatre and he had a lot of solo albums that I enjoyed, and he is a songwriter,” she said.
