Actress, writer, and performer Lin Shaye chatted her one-woman show “Tripping on Life,” which will run for five weeks in New York City.

‘Tripping on Life’

This show runs from September 8th through October 8th at Theatre Row. It was written and performed by Lin Shaye, as well as directed by Robert Galinsky. Lee Landey did the music and sound design.

The synopsis is: The 1960’s… political outrage, drug use, artistic expression and a personal event that forever impacted a woman’s life.

On the idea for this one-woman show, Shaye responded, “It came about from history. A long history of a time in my life, which was 1actually 968. That was the truth of when this all was. This was a story that was shimmering for a long time, it was cooking in the big pot.”

“It is very exciting and very liberating for me to tell this story now,” she admitted. “Writing this play has taught me a lot of things about myself. I didn’t really investigate my feelings at that time at all. Doing the show is very fascinating for me. It redefined how I experienced that experience,” she elaborated.

The digital age

On being a performer in the digital age, at a time when streaming, technology, and social media are so prevalent, Shaye responded, “I am really not a big fan of any of it. That’s why I love live theater, and I hadn’t done theater in a long time.”

“This piece is bringing me back to my roots of communication,” she said. “There is an experience that happens between the audience and the player that is unimaginable online. It’s an energy that is very unique to the experience of doing theater.”

“I am really excited and thrilled to be getting ready to have that experience,” she added.

AI on the future of the entertainment industry

An Emmy award-winning actress and “Scream Queen,” Shaye also shared her thoughts on AI on the future of the entertainment business.

“It’s very scary, especially with the strike that is going on,” she admitted “There are a lot of big things on the table, and it’s not looking pretty. Everybody has their heels planted and it doesn’t sound like there has been too much movement, let’s hope there will be.”

Stage of her life

On the title of the current chapter of her life, Shaye revealed, “Onward.”

Closing thoughts on ‘Tripping on Life’

She remarked about this show, “I hope this play inspires others to re-experience a moment in their lives that has made an impact or has changed their lives. It’s not so much experiencing my experience, it’s provoking you to experience your own.”
