Pop singer-songwriter Leroy Sanchez chatted about his new single “Fallin’,” as well as his forthcoming album and being a part of the digital age.

‘Fallin’

“The song ‘Fallin’’ came out in a session in Miami,” he said. “It was a night session, and it was pouring down. There was a crazy storm happening. I was with my two producers, and we started playing and starting to get the song going.”

“The vibe was king of moody, and so, we started to get into that kind of breakup situation. We just started talking about who had their hearts broken, and the song started happening,” he elaborated.

“I hope people get to channel that feeling of betrayal or anger and feel better about it. That’s what music can help us do,” he said.

“I hope people enjoy it and they sing it. This is one of the most challenging songs that I’ve done on my project, and I want to hear people singing it,” he added.

Music and songwriting inspirations

His music and songwriting are “inspired by everyday experiences.”

“As a songwriter, when you are put in a session five times a week, you need to start digging deep into what happens in your life,” he noted.

“You start identifying with little things, and if they make you feel a certain way and you think they are worth talking about, there is a probably a song there,” he explained.

Future plans

Sanchez revealed that there is an album in the works in the future, as well as more music. “That is very exciting,” he admitted.

Song selection process for the new album

On the song selection approach for the new CD, he said, “Since I write songs for a lot of other people, I wind up with a lot of songs. Sometimes, I get to choose the songs that I think are the best or the biggest hits. So, if not other artist gets to put a hold on them, I take those songs for myself.”

“The song selection is based on what songs make me feel the most,” he noted. “I put many years of hard work on this album, and the selection of these songs has been really hard but also very exciting.”

“I feel like every song on this record can be a single, and I’m having a hard time deciding which one,” he added.

Favorite song on the album

Sanchez shared that he does not have a personal favorite song on the new album, and that he loves all of them equally.

“Every song is special, and it feels like every song on there can be a single,” he reiterated. “That’s what makes this album so special.”

Career-defining moments

“There have been many moments in my career that have helped define me,” he attested.

“I have been doing this for a hot minute. “From YouTube, and getting my first viral video, to coming here to the United States and signing my first record deal to getting dropped to doing my first headlining tour as an independent artist, to getting my first Billboard No. 1,” he elaborated.

“There are many milestones that I don’t forget, and I always bring them with me. I always have to remember where I came from and how hard it has been,” he added.

The digital age

On being a part of the digital age, Sanchez said, “I’ve been in the media age since I started. To me, it is the way it is. I started my career in 2006 when I uploaded my first video on YouTube, so I’ve seen it all. I’ve seen everything from MySpace to Vine to TikTok.”

“Technology-wise, it doesn’t matter what happens as long as you continue to be true to your art and true to your music, and that will transcend in whatever new technology platform arises,” he added.

Advice for hopefuls in music

For young and emerging artists, he said, “Stay true to your songs and to your music. Don’t let yourself be influenced by the noise. Just do what you do and make sure that you put out your music into the world.”

“Keep putting music out into the world, otherwise people won’t be able to listen to it,” he added.

Mike Manning and the Thirst Project

Sanchez had great words about Emmy winner Mike Manning (“The Bay” and “Days of Our Lives”) who is on the board of the nonprofit organization Thirst Project. “Mike is great! He and I met at a nonprofit event for the Thirst Project. I love what that charity does,” he said.

The Thirst Project has made a bold commitment to provide access to safe, clean drinking water to all people in the country.

Dream duets in music

Sanchez listed the following artists as his dream duet choices: Adele, Beyonce, and Ryan Tedder, whom he described as a “fantastic artist, songwriter, and vocalist.”

Sanchez on Bonnie McKee

“I would also love to do something with Bonnie McKee,” he said. “Bonnie is so great! I was so happy that she finally released her ‘Hot City’ album. The great thing about technology and TikTok is that she was finally able to release this album.”

Bonnie McKee is so incredibly talented… and she has written so many songs over the years. My favorite song that she’s written is ‘Teenage Dream’ by far.”

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he said with a sweet laugh, “Sorry for the Chaos.”

Success

Regarding his definition of the word success, Sanchez shared, “Success means being able to do what I love and make a living out of it.”

“Also, to be happy and keep making my art, happily and healthily,” he added.

Message for his fans

For his fans, Sanchez said, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for staying by my side for all these years. I hope you are excited as I am for the new music.”

“For the new fans, who are joining now, welcome to the family. I hope you are enjoying the new music. I am putting my entire heart and soul in it,” he said, effusively.
