Law & Order actor and former senator Fred Thompson dies at 73

According to the Tennessean, the case of his death was lymphoma, and it quoted a statement from Thompson’s family.

The family statement read as follows, “It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of grief that we share the passing of our brother, husband, father, and grandfather who died peacefully in Nashville surrounded by his family.”

In the Law & Order series, he portrayed Manhattan District Attorney Arthur Branch, where he starred for five seasons, prior to deciding to run for president of the United States of America. In the Emmy-winning drama series, Thompson starred opposite Sam Waterston (who played executive assistant district attorney Jack McCoy) and Elisabeth Rohm, who portrayed Assistant District Attorney Serena Southerlyn.

Speaking of Rohm, she expressed her condolences for her former acting colleague on Twitter. “It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to Fred Thompson. Devastated to hear this sad news & Sending love and prayers to his family#RIP,” she posted.

Throughout his career in politics, Thompson served as a Tennessee Republican, as well as a former Watergate investigator, which helped lead to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. He represented the state of Tennessee from 1994 to 2003.
