“The Voice” alumna Lana Love chatted about her new EP “Parachute,” her music, songwriting, and being a part of the digital age.
“Parachute came out in a 20 minute free flow,” she said. “The song is about releasing the things that don’t serve you anymore. I was going through a major perspective shift at the time. In order to grow, I knew I needed to release and reprogram the pattern of allowing people close to me who were uncomfortable with my evolution. I was craving change and a solo flight. The parachute represents the safety net of people who are waiting for you to come down. For me, forgiveness was the key to cut the strings.”
“I wanted to start a vibrational conversation about evolution and healing through music. I am releasing ‘Parachute’ in two different frequencies: 440Hz and 432Hz,” she said.
“Almost all traditional pop music today is released in 440Hz, which can create unease in our bodies. I wanted to offer the option of listening in 432Hz, which is a healing frequency meant to calm and align you from the inside out. I hope the messaging in this song brings clarity on the journey up,” she explained.
The song “Parachute” is about forgiving and releasing negativity and expectations of others, so you can experience true personal freedom.
On her music and songwriting inspirations, she said, “I feel that music is our connection to something greater than ourselves. That inspires me. If I can help someone feel more connected and understood, then I’ve done my job.”
She opened up about being a part of “The Voice.” “My experience on ‘The Voice’ was one big beautiful blur. I call it the ‘growth incubator’because we all come out a little different on the other end,” she said.
“My Blind Audition song, ‘Candy’ by Mandy Moore, was an oddball choice for me,” she said. “I come from a musical theatre background, so I thought it would be fun to revamp the song and mix my two favorite genres: classical and pop. When John Legend turned for me, my whole body went into shock. I have admired his music since I was a little girl, and dreamed of working with him one day. It may sound corny, but my dream came true.”
Regarding her dream collaboration choices in music, she said, “My dream duet would be with Lady Gaga. I’m such a fan of hers and Mark Ronson. David Foster is another one. I’d be thrilled to work with John Legend again too.”
The digital age
On being an artist in the digital age, she said, “It’s easier in some ways and harder in others. But I try to view social media as a tool to connect with like-minded people. I do think it’s important to take breaks. We lose a lot of moments being glued to our phones – I’m certainly guilty of that. One practice that has helped me, is mapping out my content releases a month or two in advance, so I can post and go.”
When asked about her future plans, she said, “The future holds amazing opportunities for growth, meaningful projects, progress, new adventures, collaborations, friendships, community, deeper connections and understandings of life. The artist path is so nonlinear. We are always in the unknown, so I just focus on the person I want to become and how I want to feel. I’ll let the universe fill in the rest.”
She defined success as an “inner win.” “It is aligning your actions with integrity,” she said.
Up next, she heads to Spain performing in Malinche el musical on January 26 and 27 in Madrid. She wrote the English lyrics, assistant directed, choreographed, and performed in the 2016 Off-Broadway showcase.
The Making of Malinche went to Netflix in Nov 2021, starring Hans Zimmer and Melissa Barrera: The show opened in Madrid in September 2022, and this is the first time she will be joining the cast and celebrating the long awaited opening. She will be performing the song “Hijo de la Guerra.”
