In the early 1980s, radio hosts Bob Kevoian and Tom Griswold met up at a station in Michigan and the rest is history. Their show, The Bob and Tom Show, began on indianapolis radio station WFBQ in March of 1983 and by 1995, the show was nationally syndicated. Kevoian and Griswold, along with news director Kristi Lee and sports reporter Chick McGee, brought entertainment to a wide audience across the United States with their combination of talk, comedy, news and sports.
Following decades of success, Bob and Tom were inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame on November 5, 2015. It was during the induction that Kevoian announced his retirement, which was set for the end of 2015. Kevoian’s announcement that he would be leaving the show in order to tour the United States with his wife didn’t come as a huge shocker to many listeners, as he had often been absent over the past year, leading many to speculate that he would soon be departing.
The real shocker came this morning as show veteran Kristi Lee announced that she, too, had left the show. Her last appearance was on December 17, which was also Kevoian’s final appearance, but the fact that Lee would also be departing was never mentioned until today when she made the announcement.
“After almost 28 years with ‘The Bob & Tom Show,’ I have decided to pursue new opportunities in 2016,” she said in a statement. She also addressed her departure on Twitter, posting the following:
It’s true I am moving on. I wish nothing but the best to all who are involved in making the @bobandtom the best radio show in America!
Lee says she has an “exciting new chapter” in her career and encourages everyone to follow her on Twitter and Facebook for updates.
Surprisingly, Lee’s departure has still not been announced on the Bob and Tom Show, which led the newly retired Kevoian to chime in on his own Twitter. He had this to say:
Shocked and saddened that @bobandtom has said nothing about @Kristileenews leaving show. She deserves better. #DisappointedRetiree
It is not clear whether or not the Bob & Tom Show will permanently replace Lee but if one thing is certain, it is that a lot of Bob and Tom fans are currently wondering what the show’s future has in store.
