Kiernan Fagan of The Fagan Twins chatted about his transition from fitness and sports to the acting, modeling, and entertainment scene.
Bruce Lee once said: “If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.” This quote applies to Kiernan Fagan.
He is a two-time World Cup professional skier, fitness influencer, and fashion model. Kiernan discussed being a part of the digital age, at a time when streaming, technology, social media, and AI, are so prevalent.
Kiernan Fagan on his daily motivations
Regarding his daily motivations, Kiernan shared, “From a young age, Deven and I both knew that we wanted to do something different rather than follow the traditional path.”
“I feel like we always had very big goals and big dreams,” he said. “Growing up in Maine, we didn’t really have much money. We didn’t have a TV growing up, but we used to watch a lot of YouTube videos.”
“We got very inspired by a lot of the people that we saw. When we were younger, we were watching skiers on YouTube,” he said. “We were blown away, and we realized that was what we wanted to do with our lives.”
“Fast forward five or 10 years later, we were both professional skiers competing for the United States in World Cups,” Kiernan said. “Unfortunately, we went through a bunch of injuries such as dislocated shoulders and multiple knee injuries, so that put an end to that.”
Kiernan on being inspired by fitness influencers and YouTube videos
On being inspired by fitness influencers and YouTube videos, he said, “We started watching all these people in the fitness industry, so we started shifting more in that realm.”
“We want to be role models for other kids in the same way that we were inspired by watching other people on YouTube. It literally changed the course of our lives,” he elaborated.
“We saw these videos and what these people did, and that’s what we set out to do,” he noted.
“So, we really wanted to do that for other people, to give them inspiration and know that you don’t have to come from anything, but you can still make it to a level of greatness,” he explained.
“Now, we are going through that shift again, where we are leaning more into the fashion and acting worlds,” he added.
Kiernan Fagan: The two-time World Cup professional skier
On being a two-time World Cup professional skier, Kiernan remarked, “It was definitely a lot of hard work and sacrifice, especially going through all the injuries. Our parents sacrificed a lot.”
“So, we ended up moving from Maine to Colorado, and where we still live now, we are up in the mountains,” he noted. “We are very secluded from a lot of people, which isn’t ideal for what we’re doing now.”
“We certainly had to sacrifice a lot for what we did, financially in terms of traveling, going through injuries, and missing out on the normal moments in our childhood such as hanging out with friends, and all those things,” he elaborated.
“It was definitely all worth it because we had such big dreams, and we were able to accomplish them,” he added.
Latest endeavors in acting and filmmaking
On his latest endeavors in the acting and filmmaking landscape, Kiernan shared, “We have been in acting classes in Hollywood. Right now, we are actually in the process of starting our own production company.”
“We have always had a huge passion for filmmaking and creating content,” he noted. “Even in the fitness industry, we have been filming videos for YouTube and doing all those things.”
“We started adding in more cinematic things such as movie style skits because we get inspired by a lot of movies. A lot of people keep telling us that they want to see short films, and we have these great ideas,” he elaborated.
“So, I’ve actually been working on a ton of things. I have five movie scripts that are pretty much written and they are getting finalized,” he foreshadowed.
“That is where I really see myself in the next few decades… making my own projects, acting in the biggest films and doing all these types of things,” he added.
Career-defining moments
On his career-defining moments, he revealed, “It is not always the biggest moments such as the World Cup podiums or all these big titles. They might look cool on paper when people look at your accomplishments, but it’s really getting back up after experiencing injuries and when we started out not really having anything.”
“It’s just having the goal, the vision, the dreams and knowing deep inside that’s what you want to do and being able to get up and work for that each day. That is the most fulfilling thing… to be able to wake up and do know what you want to do,” he explained.
“It’s all about putting in the work each day to make those dreams a reality. Also, putting in those sacrifices every day is what makes the end result so fulfilling and rewarding. It’s all about the process,” he attested.
“Also, being able to look back and, ‘Man, I was so passionate and I had such a strong vision of what I wanted to do.’ This entire process is definitely the greatest part of it all,” he noted.
A proud moment for Kiernan involved gracing the cover of Esquire Greece with his twin brother Deven, where The Fagan Twins worked with creative director and photographer Per Bernal.
“That was super fun,” Kiernan admitted. “That was a pretty cool experience shooting with Per; he is a super cool guy. Per has worked with a lot of people in the fitness industry.”
“Now, Deven and I are definitely breaking more into the fashion world and the acting side of things rather than just the fitness scene,” he noted.
“While we have not been to Greece yet, this is an excuse for us to go. It looks beautiful there. We would love to make it out there at some point in the future,” Kiernan elaborated.
Working with Ricardo Guerrero
Kiernan had great words about working with Ricardo Guerrero, director of Pretty Management.
“It has been great working with Ricardo, especially to find someone that you have a good relationship with, and someone who understands your goals and what you want to do. I think that’s the biggest thing when working with somebody,” Kiernan said.
“That is helping us in different aspects and avenues. It is great to have somebody that understands your visions and goals of what you want to do in this industry and where you want to do,” he added.
Stage of his life
On the title of the current chapter of his life, he revealed, “The pursuit of the entertainment industry.”
“This is where my goals are shifting and what I want to conquer,” he admitted. “The next chapter is entertainment and film.”
The digital age
On being a part of the digital age, Keirnan stated, “I think it has its pros and cons. I think it’s been very cool that we’ve been able to use that in our career path and use social media in these new times, but it has been pretty crazy because it’s always shifting and changing so much.”
“So, you have to stay at the forefront of everything,” he said. “Now with the prevalence of AI, it is going to change a lot of things.”
“I think the best thing you can do is stay on top of that and keep up with the times and never stop learning. If you are not adapting with the times, you are going to be left behind,” he added.
Superpower of choice
He revealed that his superpower of choice would be “invincibility.”
“Being able to get back up from anything and, not letting anything stand in your way and stop you is a great superpower,” he said.
“Trying to be invincible for absolutely anything that comes your way. Also, to be able to be resilient, get back up and keep pushing,” he added.
Success
Regarding his definition of the word success, Kiernan disclosed, “I think truly being successful is being happy withing yourself, and finding eternal happiness in what you do.”
“For me, that comes in my personal life… family, friends and having good relationships with people. Also, being able to have an impact on other people with what I do. That is truly fulfilling,” he said.
“Being able to be an inspiration for other people — to show them what’s possible — is one of the most fulfilling things I can do,” he noted.
“So, success is the true impact that you can have on other people (the ones you don’t know that just follow you), where you can inspire them and change what they do in their lives,” he elaborated.
“For me, success means inspiring people to be healthier, chase their goals, and do better themselves in every aspect of their lives. Also, having better personal relationships around the people that I love,” he added.
Message for the fans and supporters
For his fans and supporters, Kiernan expressed, “I truly appreciate every ounce of support they give to Devin and myself. The fans allow us to do what we are able to do. They give us feedback on what they like from us, and what they want to see from us.”
“The fans tell us why we inspire them and the reason why they watch us and how our content moves them in some way. That truly gives us better direction of who we want to be, what we want to do and what we want to show people,” he elaborated.
“So, we are very appreciative for everyone who supports us. Our success is truly credited to them. Without the demand of people wanting to see things, it doesn’t allow us to do them. So, we are very grateful,” Kiernan acknowledged.
“Devin and I both love meeting fans, and talking with people at the gym, amongst other things. We truly understand the meaning the fans have, and it is very fulfilling,” he noted.
“One of the most fulfilling things is to be able to give advice and motivation to the fans when we are talking to them in person,” Kiernan concluded.
